Gorgeous Silver Cloud III finished in Dark Royal Blue over soft Gray Leather! Maintained with the same former owner for the past 20 years! Fitted with air conditioning, power windows, and power steering! Rust free California example showing only 85,000 miles today! Cosmetically restored and an excellent driving example!
Replacing the important but not tremendously popular Silver Dawn in 1955 was the Silver Cloud, offering body-on-frame construction, permitting both the typical Pressed Steel Company bodies but also alternate configurations. In its sophomore year, it introduced power steering and air conditioning to the Rolls-Royce line for the first time. It was successful but by 1959 Rolls-Royce sought to further separate itself from the competition and introduced a new 6.2L V8 to replace the old 4.9L Inline 6. This car became the Silver Cloud II and was equally successful over its three year run, where power steering became standard and power windows found their way onto the option list. But the ultimate Silver Cloud was released in 1963; featuring a 220 lb. lighter body with new quad headlights, upgraded 2” SU carburetors replacing the previous 1¾” units, and 9:1 compression. The Silver Cloud III became one of the best high speed luxury saloons of the 1960’s. Seeing as the newest Silver Cloud is now over 50 years old possessing more of earth’s natural resources than most modern luxury sedans, along with arguably much more class, they should be the staple in any Rolls-Royce collection for its combination of elegant styling with modern drivability.
We are very pleased to offer this final year 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Saloon finished in gorgeous Royal Blue with Pale Blue pinstripe over beautifully soft Gray Leather interior! Equipped with its original 6.2L V8 engine and Hydramatic 4-speed automatic transmission, power steering, air conditioning, power windows, dual outside mirrors, Lucas fog lamps, upgraded Kenwood AM/FM/Cassette radio, passenger vanity mirror, Smiths instrumentation, rear seat tray tables, foot wedges, rear window defogger, added front & rear seatbelts, and BF Goodrich Silvertown 8.20-15 4-ply wide whitewall tires.
Our example is exquisite in many ways, especially the fact it survives out of California where it was preserved structurally. It remains exceptionally rust free with tight body lines, perfect gaps, with all hinged panels opening and closing with ease. It retains all original Triplex window glass, all of its tire changing equipment, matching spare tire, auxiliary flashlight, tire pump, and partial small tool kit. It left California to join a Fort Lauderdale, FL collection in 1996 and stayed with that same owner until purchased by the St. Louis Car Museum. Today, the odometer reports only 85,440 actual miles which we believe to be actual. It has been repainted professionally in the past with continued show worthy results today. The interior leather upholstery and carpeting were recovered during the same cosmetic restoration. The original interior wood trim is excellent. The exterior chrome appears original with plenty of shine, but with mild surface wear visible on closer inspection. We found two dents in the bumper guards.
After its mechanical inspection in our service shop, it was noted that both brake master cylinders required replacement. We are happy to provide service receipts to the next owner to support our expense along with fresh fluids running throughout the brake system. We also replaced the brake light switch and oil pressure sending unit. All parts were supplied by Albers. Everything is in working order today including all gauges, lights, air conditioning, power windows, etc. We invite all interested parties to call with additional questions, or schedule an opportunity to view this lovely example in person.
