1961 MG MGA Description

WOW, this 1961 MGA 1600 (possible Deluxe) is 1 of only 415 MGA 1600's made that year. Most were MGA 1600 MKIIs and only a combination of only 6085 were made that year.

I purchased the car from an estate in Westchester County. NY last Summer.

The car was described to me as their Parade and Car Show vehicle.

I found it garaged and on 4 wheel dollies with her original PLY (non-radial) tires.

All fluids were drained and the car had not been registered or used since 2004.

I brought it to my mechanic in CT and with only fluids, a fuel pump and a tune up, she fired right up and drove fine, (except for the dry rotted tires.

I purchases 5 new Firestone Radials and new tubes and drove the car in CT for a month and even won a trophy at local car show.

I then had it shipped to sunny San Diego, CA in an enclosed carrier and now driving it here and getting lots of attention on the PCH 101.

The car had the following done;

electronic ignition

electric fuel pump

1 - 12 volt Battery still Positive Ground (earth)

top in great shape

side curtains in great shape

Newer carpet

Stainless steel pipe and muffler

The car had received a quality paint job decades ago and shows quite well for its age. The car odometer shows under 6,000 miles and is original as far as the owners statements and signature on NY title and bill of sale.

The new CA title is clear registered with 5820 actual miles last month.

The only reason for selling is that I have a 1964 TR4 which I have been restoring for 2 years and I just can't justify 2 Vintage British Roadsters.

The car runs great and stops great too

Wire wheels need truing but drives fine under 60mph.

It has the usual earlymodel MG oil leaks since these have no rear main seal.

The interior is also in great condition, but the leather seats had become brittle and stiff and some mice found their way into the seat bottom foam and nested there. So I am replacing the seat backs and bottoms with new foam and new leather covers.

I also bought a new tonneau cover. The top is in great shape as well as the side curtains.

This may be the lowest original miles MGA on the planet.

Also a correction on # of 1961 MGA 1600 Roadsters made is not 415 but only 314 and this one is 1 of only 37 exported to North America and that includes all MGA 1600s and 1600 Deluxe models.

There were only 103 total Left Hand Drive 1961 MGA 1600s produced worldwide.

The Blaupunkt radio does not work. I do have a new antenna for the car.

Directional signals work as well does the horn.

The light in center of the frontbumper is a working period correct LUCAS Fog lamp that does cover the hand crank hole in front bumper.

If you want questions answered, please check box at bottom that it be shared with answers inthe listing. I have pictures of the top up and side curtains on.

I can text or email to someone. My cell # 203-470-5701 is on listing.

I tried posting, but with bids, I couldn't add or replace any pictures.

Top is in great shape with no tears and plastic windows are quite clear. (was never really up). Side Curtains work as they should and plexi glass windows slide well and are pretty clear and scratch free.
