Selling a 2000 SAAB 9-5 Aero. This is a great running car, bought this car with engine and transmission issues. I pulled the engine and transmission and disassembled the engine, found engine had severely carboned exhaust valves causing low compression. Cleaned and refurbished the cylinder head.
I also removed all pistons and rings and checked to make sure they were in spec. All 4 pistons and associated rings were in spec as per SAAB specifications, only needed some carbon cleaning of piston ring grooves. Cylinder walls were also in spec with less than .005 cylinder taper. Engine bearings showed little to no wear. There is a new timing set in this car and new guides.
I have installed a new clutch in this car and the transmission is a low mileage replacement (80,000)as 2nd and 4th gear were completely gone in the old transmission. The replacement transmission shifts beautifully with only a slight stiffness going into 1st which goes away after warmed up.
This SAAB has a recent inspection sticker until11/16. Tires are in fair shape with about 1/3 of their life left, front brakes are new with resurfaced rotors, rear rotors have been resurfaced with nearly new brake pads.
It does have some cosmetic issues both interior and exterior, the drivers door handle has a rip in the coating, the lower valence is missing the fog lights, I have one good fog light but cannot be mounted as the mounts are broken in the lower valence for both sides. I assume the previous owner bottomed out the front as there is no other front end damage.
Has a small issue at the rear left fender where it appears to have been repaired, though I could not find any issue with the VIN report. There is nothing really wrong with it other than the paint is rippled from a flaw in the fiberglass repair
