1999 Subaru Legacy 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Description
Bought this legendary Subaru Outbackwagon on 5/22/2016 from a nice lady in Atlanta. She had it for 3 years. It had 197K miles so it has quite a few miles but who's surprised with 200K on a Subaru Outback? Alsoshe said the original engine had a bad head gasket so she replaced the engine during her ownership. But she didn't keep the paper work so not sure what engine was put in there. But it's definitely has fewer miles thanwhat's shown on the odometer and itruns just fine. There were some minor issues here and there but I thought it was a solid wagon just like so many other Subaru Outback so I bought it. Itwasfor my son who was a high school senior back then and ready to go to college in Nashville after the summer. We wanted to get him a solid car with AWD and this car seemed to fit very well. So during the summer, I gave the car a good walk through and fixed a bunch of things and drove it for a while before letting my son taking it to college. Here is the list of things I've done to it since I bought it:
- 5/23/2016: Replaced the rear hatch handle
- 6/2/2016: Replaced the cup holder in the back of the center console
- 6/5/2016: Replaced the cigarette lighter socket
- 6/7/2016: Installed the door sill on the passenger side
- 7/15/2016: Fixed the A/C. It was a badlow pressure side Schrader valve
- 8/10/2016: Replaced headlight bulbswith Sylvania HB5 9007 Halogen headlight bulbs
- 11/19/2016: Son backed the car into a pole just hard enough to break the hatch glass. Replaced it with another hatch door from another Outback. Unfortunately it's white so it looks just a little unusual but I actually think it's kind of cute and unique. You can obviously paint it if you want for a little bit ofmoney. I even kept the original hatch back (without the glass of course) if you want it
- 11/24/2016: Did a transmission fluid change with a new filter. Noticed a little hesitation in shifting gears. Checked transmission fluid level and saw it was low. Works fine after the ATF change. Glad it wasn't something worse!
That's about it! I thought about doing an oil change and spark plug replacement but just haven't got chance to do it yet. It does make some noise when turning hard - bet it's the CV joint. But unless you are making a hard turn in a tight spot, you won't notice it at all.It runs very well the way it is for a 18 years old car and it is my daily driver currently. So far we have driven it for around 5,000 miles around town and between Atlanta and Nashville. I'm getting 21+ mpg mixed driving; pretty much like when it was new.
Driving experience wise, of course it's not a race car but it's keeping up with the traffic pretty good. Once it reaches cruising speed, it feels so smooth and light that it seems like it can just keeping going forever. It's Subaru's 30th year anniversary back in 1999 and this was a limited edition to celebrate the anniversary. So it has real nice leather interior that still looks pretty good and much better than other no-limited edition wagons. It has floor mats in all four spots and one in the trunk. A slidingprivacy coveris also included as well.
So why am I selling it? My son did well in college in his first semesterso we decided to give him a bonus and gothim a newer car (2005 BMW X3 AWD) over the holidays. I actually like it so much that I would love to keep it as my daily driver but wife complained about having too many cars on the driveway so now I'm trying to find a good new home for it. It will make a very nice first car for a high school student. It can also be a reliable daily driver that can haul the whole family and their stuff in the spacious trunk. It also has a roof rack that can be used to haul large bulky items as well. Not to mention it has the legendary all wheel drive that Subaru is known for. Of course we probably don't need it that much in Atlanta, but people from the north, if you are looking, this may just be the winter beater car you have been looking for.
Of course, it's a 18 years old car. Although it has run so well for me, I'm selling it as is with no warranty. Feel free to have it inspected by someinspection service. If you live in Atlanta, please contact me and I will be glad to show you the car. I do travel quite a bit sowe need to schedule in advance. We can meet in a public place. I do plan tosell it locally as welland the listing may end ifI'm able to do that before listing ends. I'm asking for $2,500 based on what I see out there and good running condition this car has but I will consider reasonable and seriousoffers. I don't have to sell the car so I'll not entertain low ball offers. The worst case is that I don't sell it and keep enjoying it.
Thanks for reading my quite lengthy description. I'm trying to give you a full picture of what I know about the car to help you decide if this is the right car for you. If you still have questions, please feel free to post your question and I will try to answer as soon as I can.
Good luck!
