2001 Subaru with 175K, which needs a new timing belt and timing idler pulley. One of the cogged timing belt idler pulley bearings seized while engine was running and caused the timing belt to slip out of adjustment. This may have caused valve train damage, but I am not sure that this happened. The engine cranks over smoothly with no terrible noises. I removed the timing belt cover to visually inspect it. I have not had a chance to properly inspect any further than this to diagnose the extent of work required. The worst-case scenario is that it needs a new set of heads. I just don't have time to work on it. Do not buy this car if you don't understand what this repair involves. However, if you are mechanically knowledgeable, this car could be a good buy.
Other than this issue, the car is in very good shape. It was always maintained and serviced at regular intervals. Engine ran very well before this happened. It spent most of its life down in North Carolina, so it is not all rusted out like they normally are by this age up here in New England. Photos show the 3 worst rusty spots on the drivers side rear fender arch.Interior is very clean, as you can see! Fitted with a nice JVC Radio with CD player, removable face, and a remote control.
Car has a brand new set of Michelin Primacy MX 4 tires with less than 1K miles on them! It has new brakes front and back with top of the line cross-drilled rotors and brake pads. I had just polished the headlight lens with a 3M kit (this jinxed it!).
This might be a perfect car for you! I would be happy to show you the car and go through it with you. Please feel free to send me your contact number and I will call you. I have a service history and clear CT title for this car. Cheers!
