2001 Toyota 4Runner Description

2001 Toyota 4Runner.

Nice vehicle. Practically no rust. Strong engine. 2 new rear tires. New tranny oil, filter, and radiator (for tranny oil). Oil change. A/C charged - works well.

We haven't had this vehicle for very long, but due to the fact that we need something that uses less gas since we're driving more than we expected, we have to let it go, reluctant as we are.

The good: all of the above, and drives and steers well. Powerful 6 cyl engine. Tow package. 4 wheel drive. Interior good. Wipers new. Windshield washers work. Windows all work fine. Door locks all work. Lights and signals all work. Sunroof works. Rhino guard in front.

The not so good: High miles - thus the low price (though these Toyotas can just keep going, and it runs and idles so smoothly you wouldn't think it had such high mies). The tranny had coolant in it when we bought the vehicle; it was flushed out and replaced, and a new transmission-oil radiator was installed. We haven't had any problems with the transmission and it shifts really smoothly. The exhaust may need work done on it eventually, (sounds slightly like it may have a hole in it). The heater only blows warm air - not hot. Front brakes shimmy a little when braking at higher speeds, since the brake rotors are warped a little; will need to be replaced when the brake pads need to be replaced. Small hole in the rear that is rusting just a little bit (see photos), and two or three minor dents. Small rip in fabric at bottom of one of the front head supports, otherwise upholstery is in very good condition for age. The check engine light and VSC lights always come on, but the mechanic can't find anything wrong other than the issues mentioned above. The hood latch sometimes doesn't close properly and has to be lubricated.

These are the problems we are aware of. Other than that, it's been an incredibly strong, reliable, comfortable vehicle. Oh, and the back gate window opens too, so it can be used like a truck if you need to put any overly long items in the back (seats fold down just fine, and we normally keep them folded down for carrying things around, including our dogs since we are currently using the vehicle).

Non smoker's vehicle.
