2005 Toyota Tacoma X-Runner Description

Man has climbed Mount Everest. Gone to the bottom of the ocean. Has fired rockets to the moon. Split the atom. Achieved miracles in every field of human endeavor. But the pinnacle of his success is certain. In 2005, Toyota combined a pickup truck and a sports car into one vehicle; the Toyota Tacoma X-Runner was born.
This is the kind of truck that ends up being the last thing you think of before you go to sleep. You get up before breakfast to look at it again. You inspect it daily, not to look for new scratches but to touch it with your own hands, to feel the curved rugged steel, to long in anticipation of its raw, bestial vigor as its roars to life… ok ok, too much? Yeah I thought so too.
Alright boys, put your legs up. Loosen your tie. Pour yourself a cool refreshing glass of whiskey and light up that favorite cigar. You’re in for a real treat. You may think you’ve seen unique X-Runners before, but you haven’t seen anything yet! If you’re looking for a unique, head-turning, one-of-a-kind performance truck, then this might be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
Unfortunately the time has come for me to part ways with my baby. This truck has been an absolute blast. It’s exactly what I’ve always wanted, but my financial situation has changed for the worse and I’m left with no choice but to sell it. Believe me when I say, this was a tough decision to make. All my friends know how much this is crushing me to sell. It’s taken me 2 months of deliberation to finally let it go. :-/
This auction is for a custom modified 2005 Toyota Tacoma X-Runner with 99k original miles. This truck is fantastic to drive. Driving it around, you will instantly become a celebrity. Everyone bombards me with honking, thumbs up, and a slurry of ‘bad-ass truck’ related comments. Even police officers at stop lights give me a thumbs up. Since adding the ‘Decepticon’ related graphics, children have even started yelling “hey dad! It’s a real Decepticon”. They then proceed to duck and run for cover as it roars to life.
Oddly enough, NO ONE can ever guess what this truck IS. It’s so unusual that even Tacoma owners stare at it for a long time with a wrinkled brow. In the past 6 months, nobody has guessed correctly, so I just tell them it ‘used to be’ a Toyota Tacoma to make them feel better.
-----------------
So let me tell you about what makes this X-runner different from the rest. I’m going to be 100% honest about the truck. I’ve taken a LOT of photos. They’re of the truck as it looked the day this auction was submitted. I haven’t put any coatings on the paint to make it look nicer. I haven’t armor-all’ed the interior. I haven’t done anything to present this vehicle as anything but exactly what it is. When you win your new truck, I want you to be thrilled because it’s WAY better in person than the photos show.
I’ve taken around 300 photos of this truck. Please take a look at them here:

I KNOW I’m missing a few extra mods, but I just can’t think of them. All in, over $18,000 has actually been spent to modify this Tacoma. Considering the book value on a STOCK X-runner with NO supercharger is about $13k, I’ve started this auction at what I think is a VERY fair price and I cannot go lower on it. Whoever wins this truck is getting a STEAL no matter how you look at it.
-----------------
Mechanical – This truck is in fantastic shape. It has ZERO issues. At least half of its already low miles have been highway only and you can tell. It runs VERY well. The engine turn-key starts. Its runs 100% smooth. The exhaust is loud and mean but not obnoxious. It makes people grin. There are no strange noises. The supercharger does not clatter. The transmission was replaced with one with lower miles than the truck. I can’t remember the exact miles on it though. All fluids were changed in the last 5000 miles. The supercharger nose fluid has been changed 3 times since it was installed. The transmission and rear differential are both filled with RedLine oil. The engine has always been filled with Mobile-1 full Synthetic and just received an oil change last week. The transmission shifts perfectly. These transmissions have long clutch movement, so you have to depress them pretty far, but it shifts super smooth. The clutch engages strong and there is NO slip, but I honestly have no idea how many miles are on it. It is not the original clutch disc though. There was some URD part added to this transmission other than the short throw shifter but I cannot remember what it is.
**I will also throw in a 2nd FREE transmission with 85k miles on it if you want it. It works perfectly!** This does not mean the current one is crap. It works perfectly too. This was given to me by a previous x-runner owner who used to race his. It was the original one out of his truck before he put in a custom one. It doesn't have a speed sensor attached to it, so your speedometer won't work unless you swap it over from the previous one (no big deal).
**I'm also giving you a 2nd serpentine belt. Due to the Supercharger, its an odd size and they're not typically stocked at corner auto parts stores.
Performance-wise, this thing handles and accelerates like an expensive sports car yet manages to still be a 100% functional truck that can tow or carry a real load. It was truly funny seeing this thing carry my friend's couch home down the express way! Now that garnered me some odd looks. This truck is very exciting to drive; it really is. I can honestly say I’ve never had more fun and grinned as much while driving anything else I’ve ever owned; and I’ve owned some fun vehicles!
That being said, this truck has always been adult driven in a modest manner for most of its miles. It's never been to a drag strip, raced off the line or pushed to its limits.
-----------------
Exterior:
Paint Condition - The matte black paint is 11 years old now. If you’ve ever owned a vehicle with matte black paint, it scratches VERY easily and fades from the elements. This truck does have scratches, dings and wear. It’s been driven a lot on the highway so it has rock chips that have been touched up. That is the nice thing about matte black though. It's easy to touch up. You cannot see most of the nicks or scratches from 10 feet away and it looks fantastic, but they are there. The most notable one is a patched area in the paint above the passenger rear wheel well from where a golf ball hit the truck.
I washed the truck with soap and water a couple times to remove the coating I had on it before taking photos. I did this to show you the exact way the paint looks by itself. If you apply a coating for matte black such as Dr Beasley’s, it REALLY brings back the quality of the paint.
The under body is in VERY Good shape for a 2005. There are tiny amounts of surface rust as all cars have, but no actual damaged, rusted parts. This truck spent most of its life in Florida and the under body shows it!
The headlights and tail lights were oven baked, pulled apart, retrofitted and painted from the inside. They are one-of-a-kind.
The rims are (KMC KM187) 8.5” in the front and 10” in the rear. They are RARE. You cannot find them. EVERYONE loves them. They do have some touched up curb rash on a couple of em, but still look very nice. You can NOT drive this truck through a car wash. The rims will get stuck. Due to the width of the rear tires (which is necessary with that much power) if you load down the rear of the truck, just be careful over bumps. The fenders can nick the edges of the tires a bit. Adjusting the stiffness on the rear shocks helps quite a bit. The front tires do not rub under normal circumstances. If the truck tilts drastically while turning, they'll brush the plastic fender wells a bit, but not bad a tall.
The tires are all new within the past couple years (changed at different times) and have a lot of tread left. The NT555 tires have a great mix of performance and tread life and I recommend them. They are a little stiff at first when its cold though.
-----------------
Interior - Overall it looks nice. There are a few scratches but for a 2005, I'd consider it to be in great shape. It was owned by a mechanic though and it does have some slight discoloration from oil on the seats and carpet in a few areas. I’ve done my best to get them to show up as ‘badly’ as possible, but in real life it actually looks quite nice. I didn’t even notice most of them. The camera aggressively picks them up for some odd reason but I'd rather you be surprised that they don't look bad than have you not see them. I should mention it's never been professionally detailed so it would clean up even more. I didn't have the finances to do so before listing it. The rear seat backs have a few small marks from hauling auto parts, but nothing bad.
All the buttons, switches, levers, pulleys, ejection seats work perfectly. Cruise control works great. Everything is mechanically sound inside. The Stereo is FANTASTIC. I love the touch screen. The antenna has been shaved though so it has no standard ‘radio’.
The air condition is ridiculously cold and does not leak. The heat works perfectly.
The bed has a brand new BedRug and G2 cover. Both are less than a few months old and are in great shape. I cannot say enough good things about turning your bed into a giant, waterproof trunk! I have also installed a pop n lock system (with optional steel reinforcement) so the trunk locks and unlocks with your key fob. No having your stuff stolen!

The photos of this truck are from today. They represent EXACTLY what it looks like. I’ve taken as many as I could think to take. They are not from a million years ago when it was new, etc. I want you to be familiar with what you’re buying as it’s tough to purchase an item this expensive over the internet.
-----------------
I think that about covers it! Seriously, feel free to ask me any other questions. This is my every day driver so I'll have to add on around 100-150 miles per week while this auction is running. It'll just be driving on the highway though.
This truck is wild enough to be a crap-load of fun but mild enough to be an everyday driver. Give it some gas and it’ll drift around corners. Keep your foot out of it and it’ll give you 26mpg on the highway. It’s a fantastic vehicle!
That being said, I cannot stress enough that you will become a celebrity in your home town. If you don’t like attention, seriously don’t buy this. Even when taking those photos on the grass today, at least a dozen people stopped and caused a traffic jam just to look at it! People will stop you, want to talk about your truck and shake your hand. It’s… unusual.
-----------------
I am the owner of this vehicle. I have the title In-Hand. Everything I have said in this listing is true to the best of my knowledge. I will do my absolute best to make sure this vehicle exceeds your expectations when you take ownership of it. I have no problem with you arranging a service to transport the truck. I can be home to meet the driver whenever you’d like. Typically those services cost between $600-1200. Please do not bid on this auction unless you are going to pay for this vehicle. Non-payment hurts both other interested parties who would have paid and myself as my finances are really hurting.

**Why a Decepticon? When I first purchased this truck and started modifying it, I was told it looked evil. Being an 80’s child, what kind of vehicle is more evil than a Decepticon? If I've ever seen a Decepticon, it was this truck. Seemed fitting to me and people just love the hell out of it! It also makes all those guys with transformer stickers on their Hondas squirm in their seats when I rumble by. ;-)
