You are looking at a nice Toyota Corolla that would make anyone happy. It has made it through many Chicago winters and summers without any major problems. It is a third car that sits in front of my house.
We have two other late model cars in our household.
I pay car insurance, city stickers and license plates every year. The final straw came last week when the city of Chicago
announced they will have a car tax of about $300 a year to repair roads.
I do not want to pay $500 a year to keep a car parked all day long with very little usage.
We will also get a property tax increase and also garbage disposal fees as well.
We are all waiting for our bills.
I am trying to cut down on some costs.
Mechanically speaking, I also change the oil every 3,000 miles and I also changed the automatic transmission filter, replaced it with high quality oil and I also did filter changes and replaced the spark plugs with NGK G Power. I am not suggesting this car is the best you can find, but I maintain my cars very well. The car was garage kept up until last year.
I also replaced all 4 struts with KYB, which carry a lifetime warranty. I also replaced the tie rods (inner and outer), front ball joints, both CV drive shafts (not just the CV joint, but the entire half shaft) on both sides. I also replaced both motor mounts (front and rear). I also replaced both front wheel bearings and both front wheel hubs. I also replaced both front control arms. I also replaced the entire exhaust system, including the catalytic converter, from the exhaust manifold to the muffler. I also replaced both oxygen sensors and the charcoal canister (expensive part). It also has newer brake pads (disc and drums replaced as well). The serpentine belt was replaced as well. I gave it a 4-wheel laser wheel alignment after the suspension work.
I installed 4 brand new tires from Pep Boys about 2 years ago.
The serpentine belt was also replaced. I also filled it with Freon last summer, the AC is super cold.
The brake fluid was entirely replaced. I also replaced the rear brake shoes with all the hardware in August 2015. I got the parts at Auto Zone.
In retrospect, most of the repairs I did was not to replace "broken" parts, but just finding things to do on the weekend and being a perfectionist. For example, I wanted to have almost a silent running engine, so after I did the tune up, I ended up replacing the motor mounts to ensure even a quieter engine at idle.
I put in a lot of time, money and sweat thinking I would keep the car.
The only downside is that it loses some motor oil. Not on the ground, but I suspect a little on the valve cover or rings, typical of a car that is 14 years old. If my suspicion is correct, that is a quick and not an expensive fix. Note that no black smoke is seen either through the exhaust or motor so I am not too sure about the piston rings.
Can I share a little secret with you, these Corollas "all" have a history of burning oil, so if you are on her on looking for a Corolla, the other folks might not know that or if they do, might not share it.
Besides, almost all older cars will burn a little oil.
It also has cosmetic damage caused by a hit and run driver that skimmed both sides. The car hit the rear, passenger side and kept going. A few months later, it was hit on the other side as well.
This car had no rust, until it was hit. Both times it was a hit and run and both times the car was parked with no one inside. Typical of inner city life in Chicago in winter.
The car will have scratches on its sides. But this is over shadowed by the numerous new parts it has. When purchased, the car had a rebuilt title. The polish lady that sold it to me never told me until I showed up to register it. I never could figure out why. I am sure I would had bought the car anyways. I needed to buy an inexpensive car to get to work.
A few years ago, I got both bumpers replaced and painted and the body shop told me they did not seen any damage and that they can tell the bumpers were original based on the Styrofoam inside the bumpers.
This car has custom made speakers with huge magnets for the rear deck and a Pioneer AM/FM CD player with screen savers and tons of other features. I bought 2 of them, 6 x 9's for the back and 6.5's in the front and they sound great. The front ones are not custom, but rather name brand (I think Sony). If you know Corollas, they do not come with large speakers like that for the back deck, I drilled the holes myself and installed them. The only reason I do not take out that system is because it is too much trouble and I do not have the factory cassette player or those cheap factory speakers.
I would never buy or sell a car without a car stereo. This is a must, in my opinion.
The deck also handles IPOD's as well. (IPOD port). Pioneer stereo installed is the DEH-P6800MP. It comes with a remote. Most people could care less about a car stereo, but I think it's important to have a nice sounding stereo. I hate cars with sardine speakers or a cassette player. The stereo also plays MP3's (burned on CD-R's). The face on the stereo removes if you park your car in rough areas.
I cannot imagine anyone finding a Corolla, even newer ones, with so many new parts.
This car can easily go another 100K with proper maintenance. The car has less than 134,000 miles. About 8, 400 miles per year, which is very low. Now, I put in 5 miles a month or less.
It also recently passed the Illinois EPA emission exam (has never failed).
If you can live with the above, your good to go. This car would make a great 1st car, or second car.
This car is very reliable, but please do not ask me if you can make it to Argentina or questions only God knows.
I have transported numerous children in the car without any mishaps.
I would not had transported children if I felt it was unsafe or unreliable.
I plan to sell locally and will NOT ship the car out.
Please have reasonable expectations on a car that is 16 years old.
I also cannot pay for an inspection nor will I order a history report.
I am the seller, not the buyer.
Feel free to show up with a master mechanic from Toyota.
Right now, it needs nothing except you to drive it away.
