1976 Toyota Land Cruiser Fj 40 Description

Up for sale is my 1976 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser in very good condition. I have owned this for about 7 years and never planned to sell it, but things change. It has always been garaged with a battery float charger attached, started regularly and only driven on nice days.

It has gone through a frame-off rebuild it'sready to be enjoyed! The engine sounds and runs great, the transmission shifts smoothly and the 4 wheel drive works well.

The details… it has a Chevy small block 350 engine paired with an automatic T4 tranny and 5.11 gear. The steel tub was removed and replaced with an all aluminum tub to eliminate rust for a lifetime, then the whole vehicle repainted the yellow color you see in the pictures with the bumpers coated in bed-liner. The interior floor in the front is also coated in bedliner. The rear has carpet as shown in the pictures. Tires are Wrangler MT/R 33” (12.5xR15) – I like the wide, aggressive stance it lends to the truck. It has 2.5” dual-exhaust – great combination of a deep exhaust note but not obnoxiously loud. Spark plug wires are Accel 8.8mm silicone plus spiral-core. The radiator was replaced with a CrusierParts aluminum 3-row radiator (40 series) capable of cooling up to 650hp efficiently + an electric fan. The thermostat was replaced with the radiator (2015). K&N air filter with yellow pre-filter. Dual aluminum valve covers and red anodized Moroso tensioners and oil-fill cap. Edelbrock 4-barrel carb rebuilt less than 100 miles ago. The tires are in good condition (see pics), all fluids have recently been changed. All gauges are functional and work properly. The soft-top and soft doors in the photos are also included. They are not currently installed on the truck. Note also the spare tire carrier and matching Goodyear Wrangler tire.

I have had various maintenance performed as would be expected… replaced brake fluid with Castrol SRF Synthetic and installed new brake lines on both front wheels. Repacked front bearings with Castrol synthetic bearing grease. Differentials filled with synthetic 90W. New interstate battery installed May 1 this year. Also fresh oil change May 1 – always use Mobile 1 fully synthetic 10W-30 with Mobile 1 oil filter.

I’ve added a pair of PIAA 15352 front fog lamps plus FET LandMaster 216 off-road lights you see at the base of the windshield on driver & passenger sides. Secure storage is always a problem if you park an FJ in public so I added a windshield lockbox, a Tuffy lockable center console in which the stereo is located, and a lockable rear tailgate storage box.

The older gentleman I bought the truck from also had a top for a ’78 FJ40 Landcruiser which I took apart for transport and never reassembled or painted. I will include this in the auction, noting that it needs to be assembled and painted if desired.

Important notes: the CD player in the stereo does not work. There are two amplifiers powering the speakers and includes the speaker box you see mounted in the back plus the separate speakers at the base of the speaker box. While both amps have lights indicating they’re operating, I’m not sure if all amps and speakers work as designed – I only know it sounds good and will get relatively loud without distortion. There is a transmission fluid leak which I’m confident is coming from the tranny pan seal. The engine start is completely repeatable and predictable requiring 2 ignition cycles when cold and starts immediately when warm. The coolant leaks occasionally from the heater box in the dash… I would say sometimes a pool about the size of a quarter after an hour of driving - only on occasion. It is challenging to engage and unengage 4-wheel drive – all works well but just difficult to change drive modes. Reverse lights do not work – think the reverse switch is not installed. There is some under-paint surface rust and not much of it – I tied to take pictures to show (next to turn signals). Driver seat has a large tear (see pic).

If you’re looking for a ready-to-drive, awesome looking & performing FJ – this may be your ticket…Whether you are looking for a nice trail rider, daily cruiser or a head turner this is a sharp well built FJ.I’ve really enjoyed it and it’s a nice example of the legendary FJ vehicle. This one’s fun to drive, gets lots of attention and should last a lifetime!Title is clear and in hand. I have a couple of video's of it running so let me know if you would like to see them. I have this listed for sale locally as well so the auction can end at anytime.
