1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 Description

History:Except for the wheels, roll bar, rear seat covers, spark-plug wires and sunroof, everything is original or it has been replaced with a Toyota factory OE part. There are very few left in this kind of original condition. First owner resided in La Jolla, CA before moving to Scottsdale, AZ to retire. The only thing the original owner did was add a tilt-sunroof, CB antenna and removed the rollbar. Health and age forced him to sell it to his neighbor in Scottsdale, who enjoyed it for 10 years with his wife during their retirement. During those 10 years, the second owner replaced the carb with a new carb from a Toyota dealership, tires and he added a roll bar and bushwackers. Health caught up to him as well and I agreed to purchase the FJ40 and restore it to the original factory condition. Now it's time to pass it on to someone who appreciate's the rarity and the natural grin this truck has to offer.
Original:This was a rust-free/cancer-free vehicle. Perfect straight body and frame. No "tub-off" type restoration. Everything lines up perfect without any body work needed. Leaf springs with coilover suspension(rare), Toyota F-series 3.8L engine, 3-speed and Warn front hub lockers. I was going to put on new front seat wraps, but today'svinyl covers just don't compare to the 100% genuine Toyota leather used, so I left the front seats alone. After re-conditioning the leather, they came out great! The small tears give the seats character and are much more comfortable than thin vinyl. The rear seats had major tears in them and so I replaced them. Glass and seals are all original. Seals are in great condition! There is one small windshield crack on the passenger side. The engine received new spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, air filter, oil filter, fuel filter and battery. All engine and mechanical parts were replaced with genuine Toyota parts from Camelback Toyota dealership. Front and rear diff fluids was replaced along with oil change. Front turn signal lense and rear brake light lense was replaced. Both rear badges, backup light and license plate light was replaced with genuine Toyota parts. All bolts and nuts were either cleaned using CLR then sprayed with clear Rustoleum or replaced with factory Toyota bolts & nuts. Front and rear bumpers were also replaced with genuine Toyota bumpers. Front door weather strips were replaced and the driver side interior door latch was replaced. Inside is the original "Toyota" stamped front mat and a rear floor mat(great condition!), original steering wheel, dash pull switches, vents, dome light and lighter all work and are all original. Shift knob and transfer case knob were replaced with new Toyota OE knobs. Also included is the original yellow jack in the tool compartment under the driver seat and the glovebox utility light is also included! Rear upper tail gate has the original twist-lock struts. All door locks, door handles and latches work perfect. Door locks still have the original swinging lock covers! Around the entire truck, all lights, but one headlight and one rear side marker, are original from April 1972. Only two light lenses were replaced as stated above.
Paint:It was a tough decision between either buffing and polishing the entire truck or getting it repainted. I chose to have the truck professionallypainted the same color and leave settle hints of the original paint, which can still be buffed and polished to shine. The undercarriage was completely degreased and then professionally sprayed with epoxy. All zerks nipples were greased. There was absolutely no short cuts in painting this FJ40. It has exterior show quality and detail! Hardtop was removed to paint the rear interior of the truck. Before putting the entire hardtop back on, a new factory seal replaced the old one along with new bolts.
Condition:ORIGINAL 115,640 miles Box A and a clean Title!! There are no leaks and no excuses for its age, meaning that it doesn't burn oil because it's 44 years old. Don't expect to add oil until your next oil change. No blown head gasket and no overheating. Again, there are no leaks anywhere around this vehicle. This F series engine is very strong, awesome torque and so much fun to drive. I traveled the freeway at 65mph without any issues except for a little front end suspension "float" which is very typical....just keep two hands on the wheel. There was a few pin size holes in the exhaust which has been repaired. The carb is dialed in and the choke works perfect. Starts right up every time and I would not hesitate driving from AZ to FL or anywhere else you desire. No power-steering. Heater and recirculated air vent work perfect. Air duct was replaced along with a heater hose. Original 3-speed tranny and clutch work and shift nice. Hi-Lo Transfer case shifts smooth and engages quickly. Front Warn hubs lock without hardly any effort and work perfect. 32" BFG's are a bit dry but have plenty of thread left on them. ALL lights, blinkers, brakes and interior lights work perfect! No glitches and no shorts. New front door weather strips, a new hardtop seal and new hood cushions were added. The only item I did not replace was the headliner. However, I'm including a new white fitted aftermarket headliner and it's pre-cut to fit the hardtop. Sunroof does not leak and functions as it should.
Overall:If you are looking for a FJ40 with a V8 Chevy swap, Recaro seats and a 4" lift, I suggest moving on from this listing. If you are looking for exceptional detail and originality without any cosmetic or mechanical issues, then this is the truck for you! There was a lot of tedious time spent scrubbing screws and cleaning the inside of hoses, but every minute was worth it. On any given Saturday or Sunday, I get more attention in this truck than I feel comfortable with, ha-ha. Just about every red light, you'll get someone trying to talk to you or gives you a thumbs up. My favorite are those that model their kids, girlfriends and wives around it while I'm watching from afar inside a coffee shop. With that being said, this FJ40 comes with a Club and 2 original Toyota keys. Key chain is still from the original owner.
If you need more pics/video or have further questions, PLEASE feel free to ask. I want to make this experience memorable, just as much as I want this FJ40 to end up in the right hands.

PLEASE do not bid unless you are ready to pay for this item. I have heard of classic car financing being available through Woodside Credit, JJ Best and a few others online.
