Selling my well loved and cared for 1996 Black Toyota Land Cruiser
This is a rock solid reliable daily driver truck, with current CA tags, that was used as my primary vehicle in a rural area where we have to drive a bunch.
Mileage is currently 164,253 - which is very low for this type of rig (I'm still driving the truck a few times a week even with a new car, so will update this listing's mileage every 25 miles or so)
Had always lusted after these trucks and pulled the trigger when I found one for sale locally several years ago. It had never left that owner on the side of the road, and happy to report the same for me, even after driving across the country a few times, and nearly through the middle of a tornado in the midwest at one point.
You'll notice these are the trucks they use in the Amazon / Africa / Arctic etc when conditions are at their worst. As close to a tank as you can get.
Everything works except for 3 things: the cigarette lighter doesn't work, the left back passenger door electric lock actuator (still works fine manually), and the drivers power seat controls. You can adjust the seat bottom with a ratchet easily, motor for the back of the drivers seat still works fine
Front windows (we don't have kids or dogs so don't use the backseat for much, but those windows work fine) have always been slow rolling up or down since getting the truck years ago. I initially bought two complete window motor / regulator replacement sets to replace them, but they never ended up dying, so you get the replacement parts with the truck when you buy
All the interior lights have been swapped to the premium LED lights, with lower power consumption and huge light output
All exterior lights have been replaced and are newer premium brands
Stereo is awesome - recently upgraded last year, its got 1200watts with a new Kenwood X700 5 channel amp, 10" premium alpine type r subwoofer, with upgraded premium speakers in all the doors. Gets loud to peel paint off the wall, but stays clear, currently tuned for rock / jazz music. Has detachable face Kenwood smart CD player with blue tooth, thumb drive reader, satellite capable, detachable faceplate, remote control, mixtrax, hands free navigation with your iPhone, hands free calling with noice cancellation, very cool setup - spared no expense!
Interior is over 20 years old, but in great shape, see pics.
Body is straight aside from a small dent in driver door
Just hauled a hay bail with it, hence a few pieces of hay in the picture of the cargo hatch. We don't have a detailing shop within a few hours drive, but do regularly wash our vehicles, and this cruiser has no weird smells or anything funky.
Previous owner had kids AND large dogs, so these are mostly kid and dog related issues with the cosmetics. Truck is in good shape!
Has heavy duty rubber floor mats in the front, back, and cargo area
Recent professional window tint in the front is legal and matches the backdoor window tint
Very comfortable truck
Four wheel drive works like a boss, feel free to take this on an Eco Challenge or to your local pub in a snow storm
These trucks tend to end up with droopy sun visors in the front - a savvy mechanic installed rare earth magnets which hold them up like magic, very firm, but also still functions so you can use the visors. The magnets are hidden in the visors and the roof, so no ugly things to look at. Don't we all need vanity mirrors for makeup - my lady thought this was a necessity? Alas, the visors don't droop, so everybody won.
Brakes work well and have about 35% life left - just had the alignment done a few weeks ago, and they checked the brakes for me
Tires are Fancy Toyo H/T Open Countries and have a about 60% life left and has a full sized spare tire
Heavy duty toe ball and hitch - this rig happily pulls anything you can think of, barely feel trailers - the straight 6 is very good for towing applications
There is a dent in the driver door from fender bender in a parking lot (not a vehicle strike, actually a ladder slid off a contractor's truck parked next to it), but the cruiser has never been wrecked, or in an accident, and has a clean carfax. See pictures, body looks good
When I bought the truck, the driver door handle had a hairline crack in it, after a few years it broke off one day when opening the truck. My local shop replace it with one we found on another land cruiser. Works perfectly.
This is the original paint job - leave it as is, for a 30ft looker, or take it to your local maaco for an affordable paint job, or up to a full restoration if you want -
Paint is failing on the hood, and wheel wells, elsewhere, looks good. Took it to a local car body shop and they agreed just the wheel wells and hood would really merit repainting if I wanted to, and at that rate I could just get a maaco job to do the whole truck. So no big deal
this is a great truck for your restoration / custom projects as it needs NOTHING mechanically and the cosmetics are very tolerable, truck looks good as is
No leaks
The mechanical aspects of this vehicle are as sound as I have ever encountered. Would happily pack grandma up and drive from CA to NYC tomorrow without hesitation.
Whenever its needed anything weve taken it straight in, and that said, it hasn't need too much work, just regular service
A/C Blows Ice cold / Heater gets hot quickly
Selling as we bought new rigs - will make a family or individual very happy
Ive been selling on eBay for over 15 years with perfect feedback
To make certain everything was all good and above board, I took the truck in to our local mechanic who has been regularly servicing the truck for a check-up this week, and its running great. Fresh lube / oil / filter change - clean bill of health
Two weeks ago I had the alignment redone in Fort Bragg CA at a great shop, and the truck is driving straight as an arrow, strong like kong, with a very steady happy idle.
The value of this truck is somewhere in $8,000-$12,200 - so Ill start the reserve at $7,600 on the low side!
The best color combo they made this truck in, Black with a tan interior, gold accents on the toyota logo etc. Awesome.
Never ragged out, mudded, or anything like that.
Mainly highway miles driving to and from San Francisco and on road trips across country
