1987 Volkswagen Scirocco Description

This is a 5-speed manual, 1987 Volkswagen Scirocco 16V in completely stock configuration. It was purchased in Spartanburg, SC, where it still resides, from Gombert VW (badge pictured). The car was last tagged and driven by its second owner of 23 years in 2005. It was then parked in the open for next decade before it was rescued.
----------------------------The Good:
All of the parts are there, including tools and spare tire, and it has a clean SC title with one original key. It would be an ideal donor car, but the clean title also makes it a good candidate for restoration. The body shows no evidence of being wrecked and all of sheet metal is straight with the exception of a small ding under the license plate (pictured). The car is still wearing its original Tornado Red paint that would easily buff to a shine. A tarp was used to cover the car and has worn the paint thin in some spots on the roof and hood. Aside from some very light, and smooth-to-the-touch surface rust on those worn spots (see the front of the hood), the car is rust free.
The Bad:
The interior deteriorated in the sun and there is some evidence of rodent damage under the hood. The linkage between the shifter and transaxle has deteriorated as well. The car does roll freely though, and the tires that it was parked with still hold air. The engine does appear to be seized. The seals around the windows leak, and water to pools in the rear floorboards when uncovered. The floorboards are solid though, and I have shown a picture from underneath the rear passenger floorboard. Finally, the back of the driver's seathas a broken support in the left side causing it to be floppy. You can see the angle it sits at in one of the interior pictures.----------------------------
