1998 VW New Beetle - AS IS
1998 Volkswagen Beetle-New Description
Vehicle is being sold "AS IS" - with a known transmission issue / buyer acknowledges same.
So I bought this car last fall as a "fixer-upper" thinking it would be a good starter car for our teenager. It wasn't shifting well (2nd to 3rd) when I bought it so I took it to AAMCO. They reprogrammed it and got that issue fixed. (Or so I thought.)After the initial AAMCO repair I put a complete new driver side window cable assembly with rails & mounting panel in it. I also put in a new Front Door Lock Actuator & Latch & speaker.
I took it to a local garage and they :- Fixed an oil leak, replacing the oil pan.- Put in used radiator and Fan (the original Fan was not working & the radiator had a cracked mount.)- Replaced a cracked from fender (When I bought the car it had a unpainted spare fender.)- Replace a broken headlight mounting assembly.- Got the air conditioner working replacing the condenser (used)- Replaced the Oil Engine dipstick tube (new)...
So after all the needed repairs when I picked up the car it again had a transmission issue.I took it back to AAMCO & they couldn't fix it sending me to the specialist who actually worked on it for them the first time.He determined it needed:--anda Transmission Control Module. He installed the ___ and ___ and sent me to the VW dealer with a usedTransmission Control Module that I bought on EBay so they could program it.
Supposedly they did but it didn't work any better than before. The specialist put the original Transmission Control Module back in it.
You can drive it but you have to shift L to 2nd to Drive manually as it doesn't shift by itself.
Tired of messing with it!!
