OWNERSHIP INFO: There are four owners that have been discovered:

1966-1981: The second owner had it for 15 years based on old records.

1981-1996: Fred Lucas from Winchester Indiana owned it 15 years. Bought 10 Nov 1981 at 62 years old, Fred used the truck daily & made several annual trips to Florida for the Classic Experimental Aircraft Association, as he loved flying planes. He installed the extended-range fuel tank to make the trips easier. He also had a single passenger seat installed. It was repainted red over the original Ruby Red color sometime in the 1980’s.

1996-2015: Jim Zimmerman from Minneapolis Minnesota owned it for 19 years. He collected vintage VWs in a large storage building. He drove the truck 1500 miles over that time but it remained in storage the majority of the time. In May03 at 182,900 miles he had a new ignition switch/key installed. At 184K miles he had a new 1600cc DP motor built by a pro shop by Jeff Wilson at Mears Racing. It was also upgraded to 12V at this time.

2015-2016: Jon House from the Big Island Hawaii saw it on theSamba and bought it in Oct15 with 186,080 miles. Mileage was based on old service records & mileage book. Brakes were completely rebuilt, trans nosecone replaced, gearshift coupler replaced, fuel pump & coil replaced to become a reliable daily driver. Owner found 1960 Double Cab so he is selling this 1964.

WELDING: Prior to repainting in the 1980’s the front footwell panels were replaced with solid panels. A section of the cargo floor was replaced with matching-pattern metal.

UPGRADES: 12V electrical system, dual single front seats, extended-range fuel tank, elephant ear side mirrors, pro-built 1600cc engine, amp gauge in dash.

ISSUES: Electrical items not working: wipers, horn, & radio. Front 2/3 seat needs to be replaced. Driver’s side vent lock needs to be replaced. Fuel tank needs to be replaced to make fuel gauge work properly. Chrome ash tray needs to be replaced with Ruby Red one.
