2004 Volkswagen Passat Description

2004 vw Volkswagen volks wagon passat tdi turbo diesel passat wagon. I bought this car a few months ago, the car seems like its been well taken care in its whole life, The car has no body rot that I can see, its an automatic, it has 257,000 miles on it, the tires are good shape, it just recently passed inspection this year, interior is good shape for mileage, expect for the driver seat it has a rip in it. ok now for the bad. The car recently has started to make a clacking/ wrapping noise in the motor, the car still runs and drives but it just makes this terrible sound, right after the car started making this terrible sound I stopped driving it, to not damage the motor any further. I'm not vw mechanic so I'm not sure whats going on with the noise, I WOULDN'T RECOMEND DRIVING THE CAR UNITIL IT GETS LOOKED AT/FIXED. I may eventually plan to fix the car but, I wouldn't mind selling it either because of too many other projects I have ahead of it. Car must be paid in full with CASH at time of pick up.
