1996 Volkswagen Golf R GTi VR6 Description

This special "old school" GTi VR6 defies the years it has been driven. There are very few terrific condition Mk3 version GTIs that are as fun to drive and great to look at as this particular example.
In additon to being one of the most fun models of vehicles available during the era. If you have read this far you likely know most of this information but allow me to digress and then discuss this GTIs many terrific performance modifications.
Motortrend
"The Golf III GTI offers numerous standard features, such as dual airbags, a premium AM/FM/cassette eight-speaker stereo, air conditioning, power sunroof, power door locks, rear air ducts, and an anti-theft alarm system. The GTI VR6 elevates the driving experience even further; it adds power windows, heated power mirrors, a 160-mph speedometer, a height-adjustable steering column, a trip computer, sport-tuned suspension, traction control, and 15-inch wheels....GTI VR6 is the first GTI to be powered by a V-6 engine. The 15-degree-vee powerplant produces 172 horsepower and 173 pound-feet for true grin-inducing acceleration. This performance sleeper encourages copious amounts of throttle and rapid gear changes; its instant-on power delivery makes passing effortless and turns curvy roads into playgrounds. Strong low-end twist creates mild torque steer as the car charges like a bull wherever it’s pointed, and the easy-moving, syrupy shifter has a distinct German feel that’s part-and-parcel of autobahn thrills. The GTI VR6’s 7.2-second 0-60-mph best has few rivals in the under-$25,000 market...And while the GTI reinvents the original by matching performance and adding standard equipment, the GTI VR6 elevates the moniker’s prestige by combining six-cylinder power, luxury, and value in a persuasive package that would cause any driving enthusiast to salivate."
Car & Driver
"Scrubbing off the new GTI's prodigious speed is simple, thanks to standard Bosch ABS and rotors one-inch larger, front and rear, than those attached to any other Golf. This Volkswagen stops from 70 mph in only 171 feet—less distance than was required by the last Nissan 300ZX Turbo we tested. My notebook spent so much time hurtling through the cockpit that it might qualify for frequent-flier status. Standard equipment on every GTI VR6 sounds like something concocted by Lexus. In fact, buyers are offered exactly one option: a six-disc trunk-mounted CD player. When you get serious, driving the GTI VR6 is a light-footed delight. It squirts and screams through traffic like some sort of motorcycle cop on a juiced-up Harley.Aggressive step-off nets moderate torque steer, and what there is of it dissipates by the time you shift into second. Where you get a smart chirp from the Eagle GAs. The engine, from 1000 rpm to its 6650-rpm cutout, is as smooth as anything this side of a Benz V-12. There are simply no power surges or dips over a 5650-rpm band. And above 4000 rpm, a lovely ursine growl emanates from the twin chrome exhaust tips."
The reluctance of a few of my cohorts to fully endorse the virtues of this pure driver's car is perplexing. —Steve Spence

-Drivers Edition Steering wheel black leather with red stitching near new condition impossible to find comes with the car.
-So much maintanance over the years including religious synthetic oil changes every 3000mi or every season.
This car lends itself to someone who still loves to drive a real manual car that is attached to the road with feedback included and all. Leave as is and enjoy this unque one for years or add your favourite power adder. Turbo or supercharger are really easy bolt ons with massive perf gains.
Approximately 2800 lbs and likely a shade over a real 200hp is near as much fun as my 911 but way more practical and stealthy.
A great link for a turbo built Gti VR6 on the track to get your interest in what I had always intended on doing to fully realize the car's potential !
