Maintenance needed:
The speedometer drive gear needs replaced. Because this is broken it does not send messages to the instrument cluster so the speedometer, odometer, cruise control and fuel gauge are not functioning until it is fixed. Sometimes 4th gear gets jammed, but if you get the RPM high enough it will shift. This only happens once a month or so. Check engine light has codes referring to instrument cluster - P1163 AND P1650
Driver side and passenger rear side floor accumulate moisture sometimes...not sure why.
Notes:
Originally a 1.8t gasoline model. Re-done with original drivetrain from Netherlands.
The only engine part that is different since it is a european model is the valve cover gasket. It uses the gasket from an AHU or 1Z engine that is found in the 1996-1998 Passat / Jetta TDI. It is fine now, but some time down the road, if it does need replacement, at least you will know. The part is just as easy to find, and better since the 2000-2003 valve cover gasket is integrated into the valve cover and runs over $100 for the assembly.
*DOES NOT HAVE GLOW PLUG LIGHT * This just means in colder temps you will need to remember to wait for the glow plugs to warm up instead of having a light to remind you.
