1972 KARMANN GHIA CONVERTIBLE, MULTIPLE AWARD WINNER, NO EXPENSE SPARED, NO RESERVE
This is a no reserve auction, this car will sell to the highest bidder. This near perfect 1972 Karmann Ghia Convertible comes to us from a local private collection. Its owner wanted a perfect Karmann Ghia and spent years and close to $45,000 to make one. Winner of multiple awards at local and regional shows, you’d spend a long time and a lot of money to find one nicer than this. Numerous custom details make this car even more special. This car has been a California car its entire life, so rust has never been an issue.
As you can see in the pictures, this Karmann Ghia is laser straight. The paint is phenomenal. The seat and door panels are done in custom leather and cost over $5,000 to do. The gauges are all VDO, including the clock, which keeps perfect time. The clutch, transmission and engine were all rebuilt or redone in the last 12 months. The 1600 puts out a stout 62hp. So, you’re not going to win many green light grand prixes, but it will easily cruise at 75 all day long. This car has no leaks. The engine, as seen in the pictures, is totally chromed out, including a chrome battery box.
Braking is provided by discs at all corners. The wheels are period correct Fuchs from a Porsche. The Karmann Ghia has been lowered slightly and doing so improves the ride and cornering. This is a fun car to take up the twisties. The top is new and has a drop down glass rear window. Not shown in the pictures, the Karmann Ghia does have a bra to prevent rock chips and such. All of the glass is in near perfect condition.
The tires are also new in the last two years and have plenty of tread. All fluids are fresh. Everything on the car works as it should, all lights, wipers (though you’re never driving it in the rain), turn signals, horn, windows, etc. The stereo rocks. The car sounds great and gets plenty of thumbs up and smart phone photos wherever it goes.
Like all of our auctions, this car is for sale locally and we reserve the right to end the auction early. If you’ve ever wanted a Karmann Ghia, this is your car. Yes, there are less expensive ones out there, but you’d be hard pressed to buy one and make it as nice as this one for what we anticipate it will sell for. In answer to the question, yes, this Karmann Ghia really is as nice as the pictures show.
