HISTORY
I acquired this Bug through a friend who works at a car dealer in Florida. He knew I was looking for a Red Bug for my daughter. She wanted to put the black spots, headlight eye lashes, etc, on the beetle to make it look like a lady bug. I have all the needed material. Now she has decided she does NOT want to drive!!! I have had the car for 1 year, garage kept, and added maybe 2K miles.
THE CONVERTIBLE TOP ISSUE
The top does not go up or down automatically. At the time it was acquired we thought it was the switch or a fuse or a relay. The car has been taken to VW in Denville NJ who diagnosed the top problem, as well as went over the car with a fine tooth comb (at a cost of $120, I have attached a copy of their list of needed repairs. It documents the codes read from the 2 needed parts) The top is tied to the window motor and door latch on the drivers side. It requires 2 parts which I have acquired genuine VW parts for at a cost of $700! VW suggested waiting until spring to do the repair as the top will not be used in cold weather. Their charge for labor to put these 2 parts in the door was obscene! (I believe about $1000!!). I was going to take to a body shop or window/glass repair shop and try to have it done for much less. I am including these parts with the sale, anticipating a buyer may be able to install themselves. The 2 parts are listed in the Denville VW report, along with part numbers which match the parts I have.
ASKING PRICE
I have discounted the price of the cover to cover this repair. NADA shows trade-in value at $5875and retail value at $8050. I have been offered $5800 on a trade in. I would like to get $6750 for the car which is the trade-in value plus the price of the parts I bought. I also have an original VW boot for the top in pristine condition which sells on EBAY for $300-400. That is also included
