2003 Volkswagen Jetta TDI ALH Diesel Automatic VW Clean White Runs Great MPG
2003 Volkswagen Jetta 4 door sedan Description
Description
I'm selling my 2003 Jetta TDI. The car runs and drives great, always passes emissions. We're selling it because we just bought a van and don't need so many vehicles. The outside is pretty good, the inside is very clean. It's never had a check engine light on. The motorruns like new and gets 34mpg in town or freeway (I usually do mixed driving but it's always between 32 and 35). The transmission shifts perfectly. We don't smoke or haul pets in the car. Everything works on and in the car, even the rear seats tilting down. I didn't know it could even do that till last time I vacuumed the inside. Here's a history on the car.
My wife and I bought the car with about 170 or 180,000 miles in 2013. We lived in Southern Utah (about the same climate as Phoenix, but 10 degrees cooler). We stayed up on maintenance changing the oil and filter about every 3-5,000 miles. They recommend changing it every 10,000 but that seems to far for my liking.
@ 200,000 miles I changed
Transmission fluid and filter,
Cabin air filter,
Engine air filter,
Fuel filter,
Radiator fans,
Two new tires from discount tire,
Tightened battery fuses,
Replaced battery
Then we moved to Buckeye in 2014. At 220,000 miles I bought a
Timing belt kit (didn't install it) they recommendreplacement every 80k to 100k miles,
Two front shocks with all bushings etc. and
Two more tires from discount tire.
Then about 6 months ago at 240,000 miles the timing belt broke while pulling out of our housing development. I wished I hadn't put off installing that kit since now it was going to take a ton more hours and money to fix, but the car was worth it and I figured I'd i do it I'll do it up right.
Because the engine is a interference engine the valves needed replaced.
I removed the cylinder head and replaced
Intake and Exhaust valves,
Valve guides,
Reground valve seats,
Replaced the lifters,
Head gasket,
Head bolts,
All hardware,
Water pump (metal impeller version),
Thermostat,
Thermostat housing,
Turbo CHRA,
Turbo actuator,
Fuel injectors (Bosio powerplus 357),
Injection pump gaskets,
Cleaned the head,
Cleaned exhaust,
Cleaned intake,
Replaced EGR/ air valve,
Oil filter,
Engine oil,
All vacuum hoses, and
Coolant.
I was going to replace glow plugs and fuel supply lines, but they are so easy to get at and have no problems at the moment, I decided I'd replace them when or if they go out. All parts were quality, not OEM, most from IDparts.com (they only carry reputable aftermarket parts). I used vag com for the injector and turbo settings. I do maintenance on fleet trucks for work, mostly diesels, so I wasn't worried about tools or ability.
I've owned it for a good while now and that's about all I can remember.
