2004 Volkswagen R32 Description

Fully track-prepped flexfuel supercharged MK4 R32 for sale, 50k miles. Located in San Diego, California. This has been in my family since it was new in 2004. It was first owned by my dad then the title was transferred to me. I started the project by putting a VF stage 2 supercharger kit on in 2007 and have been tuning it ever since. This car has been to every Fastivus event since it began so if you are a VW enthusiast on the west coast you’ve probably seen it. This is my longest running project and I’ve put over $20k worth of mods into it. Sadly it has to go so I can make space for something a bit more family oriented. It is insured and registered in California for normal road use.
Everything I’ve done has been with the goal of making it a balanced and easy-to-drive track car that can still be driven to the track. As a result it will easily keep up in the advanced group at any track day. Through many sway bar combinations and damping tweaks I have achieved neutral balance so that you can steer the car with the throttle pedal. You can make the nose tuck into a corner by letting off the throttle or tapping the brakes, and then it pushes ever so slightly when you squeeze on the throttle gently out of a corner. This setup helped me get the King of the Hill award for fastest lap time at the last Fastivus event (beating out turbocharged R32s). The KW coilovers are easily adjustable with a 2mm hex key if you feel like fiddling further. Here is a video of the fastest lap at the 2015 Fastivus event and another of the exhaust note in both quiet and loud modes.
Fastivus 2015 King of the Hill LapExhaust Note
On its last dyno pull it made 323hp/255tq at the 4 wheels. That’s roughly 394hp at the crank if you trust the %18 powertrain loss estimate. This was with a tank of E85 which is what I run at the track instead of race gas. The Bluewater Flexfuel tune lets you fill up with 91 octane gasoline if you want, but E85 burns much cooler and is only $2.30 a gallon in SoCal right now!!! The flexfuel tune adjusts the timing and fuel maps so it runs on either fuel with no user input, just fill it with what you want or even a mixture. On 91 octane gas it starts and runs perfectly like the GIAC tune that came with the supercharger kit. On E85 it hesitates to start if the engine is completely cold, but makes a noticeable improvement in power and starts perfectly when warm. The 3rd(blue) dyno pull is with the exhaust flap closed on quite mode, the other two were on loud mode. The exhaust setup is a custom job with high flow cats and a bypass tube around the factory muffler controlled by the factory solenoid-driven flap. This means quiet mode sounds mostly stock, but loud mode has as little backpressure as possible to complement the high-overlap Techtonics camshafts.
The stock clutch did handle this extra torque, but only just. Thus I went for a slightly upgraded Clutch Masters FX300 Kevlar setup and a lightweight flywheel while I was at it. This is a sprung clutch disk so even with the single mass flywheel it is actually very smooth and nice to drive in traffic. The 02M gearbox in the R32 and 1st gen audi TT are known for rattling a little with a single mass flywheel but you can only hear it when creeping around in a parking lot and not when cruising. If it really bothers you then VW make a shim that can be installed in 10 minutes to fix the rattle but it never bothered me enough to justify the effort. The flywheel and the Techtonics cams were installed courtesy of my friends at 4 Season Tuning who specialize in Volkwagen tuning and come out to the Fastivus VW track-days with me regularly. The VF stage 2 Supercharger and engine mounts were installed in-house at VF Engineering.
The Corbeau suede seats are more comfortable than the stock seats for me. There is also a matching Corbeau 5-point racing harness installed on the driver’s side which is tied to the original belt mounts along with the roll bar. I have the original seatbelt if you want to go back to that. Also on the roll bar is a GoPro mount for filming your track days. Should you want to get a second set of wheels and tires for the track then you will be happy to know all 4 will fit under the roll bar where the back seats used to be.
Dashboard is very clean. I currently have a custom made boost gauge with charge temperature and manifold temperature readings in place of the seat heater switches but I can put the seat heater switches back in if you like. To is the right of the center vents is a suction cup mount I installed on the dash so you can securely use a suction cup phone holder.

The two obvious bits in the engine bay are the supercharger and the big hole where the battery used to be. I moved the battery to the back to help balance the car a little better. It's an brand new Odyssey high-current battery I just put in for sale and is secured safely with an aluminium bracket to comply with track tech-inspection. You may also notice the billet dipstick handle and water expansion tank cover. The dipstick handle was purchased back in 2007 before the manufacturer was given a cease and desist letter from VW for selling something with the .:R logo. Thus this is a very rare item now. Also visible are the Ground Control camber plates on top of the strut towers which I've dialed in for a hair more camber and caster than stock which give me even wear at the track and on the street.
The boot is very empty right now to make space for track gear. I still have all of the interior pieces and will put them back upon request. I do not have the rear seats but they are rather useless with the roll bar in the back. I have 4 5-gallon fuel jugs I use to bring extra E85 to the track and they fit in the back along with spare tires, tool box, jack, chairs, food, and helmets. This is a very spacious car and will haul you and your gear to the track, let you race, and get you home safely in air-conditioned comfort! I currently have the custom-made "32" numbers on the car, these are easily removable if you want another number or none at all. I hated putting blue tape on my windows at track days so I had custom ones made.

In preparation for sale I've just bled the brakes with fresh Motul RPF600 race brake fluid and put in fresh Carbotech XP8 brake pads with new OEM front rotors. I also have a new set of Meyle street pads on-hand and did an oil and filter change just 500 miles ago. It has brand new poly-bushings in the dogbone engine mount and I have a new set of bushings for the engine and gearbox mounts in package for when you want them (pictures above). A new supercharger belt went in before the last track day and I have a brand new one in package ready for the future. I also put a brand new Odyssey battery in a few weeks ago. The tires only have 1000 miles on them too. This car is ready to race!
This is a rare car as they only imported 5000 to the US, only 750 of which were Black Magic Pearl. I still have the poster it came with that has the marking 2366/5000. I also have the leather-bound manual in perfect condition, the OEM ".:R" license plate surround (not pictured), lo-jack certificate, original brochure, and invoices of the work done in-house at VF-Engineering.

I’m not in a hurry to sell and I’m looking for the right buyer who will take care of my baby and drive it how it was built to be driven.
