THIS WAS MY DREAM VAN! LAST YEAR PRODUCED VANAGON SYNCRO WITH A SUBARU SVX MOTOR, THIS THING DRIVES AWSOME! I NEVER PLANNED ON SELLING IT BUT NEED TO FIX MY OTHER VAN. I JUST GOT A ROD KNOCK IN MY OTHER 1991 2WD, "THE LOVE BUS". I WAS LEAVING FOR ALASKA JUNE 1, 6 MONTHS LIVING IN THE VAN, NOT HAPPENING ANY MORE. I AM GOING TO SPEND THE SUMMER WORKING ON IT AND HAVE IT READY FOR MY 16TH TRIP CROSS COUNTRY, 3 MONTHS AND 13 NATIONAL PARKS, SEPT, OCT, NOV.UNFORTUNATELY ALASKA WILL HAVE TO WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR. I WAS SAVING THE SYNCRO AS MY TOY, KEPT IN THE GARAGE AND HAVE PUT ALL THE MILES ON MY 2WD, BUT BELIEVE ME THE 2WD LOVE BUS HOLDS IT'S OWN ANYWHERE I HAVE TRAVELED. TWO ISSUES WITH THE VAN:1. IT HAS A SLIGHT GRIND IN 3RD IF YOU SHIFT TOO FAST. I BOUGHT IT THIS WAY & THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD BEEN DRIVING IT THAT WAY. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT THAT WAY FOR TWO YEARS, IT DOES NOT GRIND AT ALL IF YOU SHIFT SLOW, IT ONLY DOES IT IF YOU SHIFT FAST. MY THOUGHTS AFTER HAVING SO MANY VANS, KEEP DRIVING IT THAT WAY. IT MAY KEEP GOING FOR YEARS IF YOU ARE A GOOD DRIVER. I HAVE PRICED THE VAN TAKING INTO ACCOUNT IT MAY NEED WORK DOWN THE ROAD. THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AND SAID THE GRIND NEVER HAPPENED UNTIL THE NEW CLUTCH WAS INSTALLED. IT COULD BE SOMETHING SIMPLE, I JUST NEVER HAD TIME TO CHECK IT OUT. SHIFT LINKAGE, RELEASE BEARING, ETC...
2. I STARTED TO PEEL THEEXISTING PIN-STRIPPING OFF THE VAN BECAUSE I DIDN'T LIKE IT, IT NEEDS TO BE FINISHED AND RE-PIN-STRIPPED.
THE REST OF THE VAN IS AWESOME AND NEEDS NOTHING! IF YOU'RE THINKING, CAN I GET IN THIS AND DRIVE IT HOME CROSS COUNTRY? MY ANSWER WOULD BE YES, WITHOUT A DOUBT! IT DRIVES AWESOME!
