1979 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon WESTFALIA POP-TOP Description

This is a very nice bus in great shape. I have the clean Louisiana Title in hand and in my name. It has never left me stranded on the side of the road and always starts right up. It will get up and go 75 to 85 miles per hour no problem, but I have always driven it at the recommended 55-60 on the highway and I never bog it down or put it in 4th gear when I'm driving around town. It runs and drives like a dream; especially with the new tires (BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO LT195/75R14). If you're bidding on a bus make sure that it has the right size and load rated tires or you'll be all over the road when cars pass you or the wind blows. When I got the bus it had standard passenger car tires on it and it felt like I was riding on marshmallows... It's so much easier to steer now and these All Terrains make it look tougher. I also replaced the spare too so there are 5 brand new identical tires to put into rotation.
It has always been serviced by a reputable VW mechanic and has always been given a clean bill of health with good compression. All of the bus's camping systems work: fridge, electrical outlets, and propane stove. All of the cushions are in great shape with no major rips or stains. Some things I have fixed/replaced on the bus:
- Five Brand New Tires- Brand New Spare Tire Cover- New Starter (Two years old)- New Fuel Line- CD Player works- Replaced Windshield Wiper Fluid Lines- New Propane Main Valve- Swivel Passenger Seat Serviced and Spins Easily- Sliding Door Adjusted/Lubed and Closes Easily
The paint is about 5 years old and is in good shiny shape. There are 2 little bubble spots (quarter sized) and the biggest rust spot is on the sliding door where it used to pinch a little (see pictures). I have since adjusted the door and you can now slide it shut with one finger. Any other little rust spots can be seen in the pictures and are minimal. The undercarriage and the front footsteps are virtually rust free. The bus was previously in California before I got it. It's been in Pensacola and New Orleans for the past 5 years that I've had it and we haven't had any major hurricanes or flooding in that time.
The pop top roof and seals are in great shape and don't leak whatsoever but it does need a new tent canvas. They are about $400 on the internet and you can do it yourself; just search youtube and you can find tutorials. I was about to replace it when the old tires went out. So it got new rubber instead of a tent. It is currently patched with clear patch tape and would probably hold up for another year or so but it would definitely look sharp with a new one.
Some extras the bus comes with are: the table and swivel, a bug screen for the back door, a new fire extinguisher, 4 way tire iron, the factory jack, an extra belt, a backup beeper, brand new tire cover, and the highest rated shop manuals that I could find for the bus.
I'm selling the bus because I'm unexpectedly moving to Rochester, NY for work and while I would love to have it up there during the summer months I just can't stomach the idea of putting it through those winters and all of that road salt... Plus I need the cash for the move! It has been well loved and maintained and gets smiles and looks wherever you take it. The reserve is set for less than what I gave for the bus and is very fair.
SHIPPING:I live in New Orleans and can drive the bus to the port or coordinate with a uShip or other shipping service to get the VW to you. Arranging and paying for shipping is the buyer's responsibility.
