1965 VW Type II bus with Canadian version camper shell (extends straight up and is huge).
I purchased this 8 years ago. I had it fully restored mechanically with new engine (block, heads, valves, pistons & cylinders), camshaft, lifters, flywheel and bearings. It has an additional deepsump 1 1/2 extra quart oil reserve and oil cooler kit with electric fan and thermostat. High pressure steel cables run the extra oil to the cooling system. The transmission is new. New intake and carburetor, heater boxes, clutch, mounts and fan housing. It has new disc brakes, drums, bushings, etc. The transaxels have been rebuilt including many new parts. The tires have less than 5k miles on them.
The canopy is in great shape except a small leak in the rooftop window. Inside the canopy, has two hammocks rated for up to 100 pounds. The interior leather appears to be original and looks weathered chic. It is in really good shape with no tears.
The interior windows work pretty well. There is wood paneling throughout with a lot of storage. The rear bench folds down to make a very comfortable bed for two adults. I removed the sink area when I purchased it because it was in bad condition.
There is very little rust and a few dings in the rear panel. I was told that the underside is in very good condition. I do not believe it is original paint. The worst part of the entire bus is that the seals around the windows need to be replaced. I actually have new rubber seals but have not installed. I also believe that the glass in the windshields are original.
I have made 5 trips to Mammoth Mountain and Sequoia National Forest in this bus from San Diego. The temperature in the engine, all summer trips, never exceeded 185 degrees. And I was able to cruise around 65-75 the entire way. It drives awesome. But it is best driving along the coast at 40 miles an hour. It is so peaceful.
I am entertaining serious offers. I am happy to have the bus checked out by a professional and will reimburse for that service for eventual new owner. I am actually going to have it checked out next week with someone local
