1972 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Camper Description

1972 Volkswagen Westfalia Van
50,899 total miles
Engine has only 550 miles
New canvas pop-up tent
Fold down rear seat/double bed
All original fold-up tables, cabinets, and the original hard to find upholstered stool. Stainless steel sink with original single handle faucet. Refrigerator built in under the sink. Original folding table that opens out through the sliding door for use outside when camping. All are in excellent condition. I believe the cabinets are teak.
The two front seats have the original woven vinyl upholstery. They are worn along some of the edges. They aren't losing any of the padding and are very comfortable and "springy." The rear seats have their original harvest gold vinyl upholstery in great condition. Not torn or ripped.
Original Pearl White Paint! Somewhat oxidized with slight rust below the windshield. We have a new windshield gasket that will come with the van, so if you ever want to paint it the windshield can be removed to clean up this area and safely reinstalled.
All original emblems in place.
Louvered windows in the back that work great. The original curtains are missing except for one small piece. This piece is the gold plaid that was standard in 1972.
Easy to start and to drive. We've driven it at 70 mph on the highway with no hesitation.
The original owners were a young family who took great care of it. They kept all maintenance records from the first oil change at the dealer on. They sold the van in 2012 to a professional VW mechanic. He had a new canvas top made and installed a new engine. He also kept perfect records of all the work he did. We bought the van from him in 2014. We intended to use it for camping, but have only driven it locally from time to time.
The bus also has 2 original child's hammocks. These stow in a side compartment when not in use. One is meant to be used in pop-up area and the other over the two front seats. They hang from brackets meant for this purpose.
Has good tires and a good spare.
Lots of storage compartments built into the sides of the van. The Westphalia package included custom molded wood paneling in a bleached white finish on the sides and ceiling. This has held up wonderfully, much better than the carpet or fabric used in most vans. Its also easy to keep clean.
Has the original push-button am and Fm radio, still working.
The fuel gauge doesn't work.
The canvas top is easy for one person to put up or down. It has screened windows that can be opened or covered by zippered canvas panels. When it's raised up an adult can stand and move in the van. It doesn't have a bed in the top, but simple plans for installing one can be found online in VW forums. I think pre-made ones can also be find on ebay. The fiberglass top is pretty dirty but in excellent condition. If it ever warms up around here I'll scrub it down and put up a new picture of it.
No gps, no satelite radio, no usb ports, no wifi.
Does have an external 110 outlet for plugging in while camping, with interior plug that will accept normal household appliances. Comes with an outside extension.
