Passed PA State Inspection on 7/5/2016.
This is a beautiful 1973 special edition Volkswagen Saturn Yellow Super Beetle called the Sports Bug. It features Recaro sport bucket seats(original), short-throw synchro stick shift(the faster you shift, the faster it shifts), a thicker simulated leather wrapped 3 spoke steering wheel(original), mag-type wheels(original), wider steer wheels for wider tires and matte black exterior trim. The distinctive red & black waist stripe were optional. 20,000 of these Beetles were sold in North America in 1973, offered for one year only.
This Volkswagen Beetle is in good condition but has some rust bubbles& exposed rust, it was repainted with original color in 1983, there is some damage to seats(cigarette burn hole in rear seat, there when purchased), odometer says 30,030 but actually has 130,030, broken stud on right side of engine where muffler attaches, poor heat & windshield defrost, poor condition running boards, poorly applied stripe, passenger door doesn't open from outside, small dent in metal surrounding headlight, needs tires due to dry rot, etc. These are the items that we are aware of. It may need additional work. I don't know what changes were made to it prior to my purchase. It has not been reconditioned.
This Beetle has a Pennsylvania Classic Plate, #39255. It passed Pennsylvania yearly inspection on 7/5/2016. Tires passed tread wear test but are older and exhibit dry rot. After inspection of 2015 took it to a Volkswagen specialist(Baum's Service Center in New Cumberland, PA) for a safety check on 9/8/2015. He replaced the valve cover & gasket, both tie rod ends(repair to steering) and both rear brake hoses(repair brake lock up). It comes with a gray fabric cover that is in very good condition.
This Beetle was purchased used in 1978. It was my first car purchase, purchased upon graduation from college. It was driven for a few years, until I purchased a new 1980 Honda Prelude. The car was semi-retired, used sparingly some summers and mostly stored in my Mom's garage since then.
Since original listing last year at this time have found repair receipts & Capital VW Vintage Club Membership card and sticker in glove compartment
