1997 Volvo Other Description

Hello and thank you for looking at my auction. My name is Joe and I sell vehicles differently than most dealers. Buying your next car through one of my NO RESERVE auctions is the best way to take the games out of your next automotive purchase. I personally road test each vehicle before it runs and drives so I can give you my first hand opinion of how it runs and drives. Please keep in mind that I am not a mechanic. Each vehicle is represented accurately and honestly to the best of my knowledge and ability. Please take the time to read this entire description as well as our Terms & Conditions as most answers can be found in at least one of those places.

Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a 1997 Volvo 964. I am personally a huge fan of these cars. They are the last of a legacy of front engine / rear drive Volvos. Being the flagship of the Volvo brand, the 960's came very well equipped and were great driving vehicles. I would rate the exterior of this 964 to be in AVERAGE CONDITION for its age and mileage. Please keep in mind that this is a nearly 20 year old car with miles on it. The black finish shines nicely for its age. There is a faded spot on the roof and a few scrapes on the bumper covers, but nothing else worth reporting, otherwise. The only other thing worth noting is that the fuel filler door is broken off, which is common. Please expect a few scratches and flaws commensurate with a car of this age and mileage. The body lines are nice and straight. The hood, doors and trunk all open and close easily. All of the glass and lenses are intact. The factory alloy wheels show well and are wrapped in a nice set of matching rubber with deep tread all around. Please take the time to check out each of the photos carefully.

I would rate the interior of this 964 to be in BELOW AVERAGE CONDITION for its age and mileage. As you can see, the interior is showing its age. The door cards are all pulling...which is common. The carpets show their age but are acceptable. The headliner is the main issue. As you can see, the entire headliner is coming down. The leather seats are power operated and heated. As you can see, the seats show a little wear...but they are acceptable for their age. The power windows, locks, seats, mirrors and sunroof all work properly. The sunroof will leak water if it sits in a rain storm. These cars aren't known for sealing issues so my guess would be a clogged drain line. It didn't get any water in it from washing it,butI did get water insideone night I left it out when it stormed overnight. The climate control system is fully automatic and appears to be working properly. The heater works well but the air conditioner will need charged or serviced as it does not blow cold air. The audio system is the original Volvo Premium Sound, which powers up and sounds good. The trunk is spacious and clean, too.

Mechanically, this Volvo appears to be in good running and driving condition. The 2.9L inline six cylinder engine starts easily and runs smoothly. I didn't notice any leaks and the engine does not smoke. Her road manners are excellent for an older vehicle. The suspension feels tight and well sorted. Steering and braking feel good, too. The engine keeps perfect temperature and makes good power. The check engine light is on. The code is "catalyst efficiency below threshold". That means either the catalytic converter is bad or the rear oxygen sensor is bad. I've driven cars with clogged catalytic converters, and this cat is definitely not clogged...so I would lean towards the oxygen sensor. There is an audible exhaust leak coming from up near the front of the car so it is possible that could also be the issue. The engine makes great power and runs smoothly. She keeps perfect temperature at all times. The automatic transmission engages smoothly and shifts properly with no issues. Out on the highway, this Volvo drives nice and straight with absolutely no complaints. I cannot get over how nicely this car drives. Someone clearly took care of this car. The timing belt has been done twice, as recommended by Volvo. The last belt service was done around 140k...so she's good til 210k. This 964 has a current PA safety and emissions inspection good through the end of November, 2016. As a side note, I got this car, drove it, took pictures and was ready to list it. My friend's dad called me and told me that one of his other sons hit a deer and his insurance wouldn't cover a rental and asked if he had anything I could loan him...so I threw a tag on this Volvo and loaned it to him so he could get around. When I got the car back about 6 weeks later, I looked at the odometer and noticed that he had put 2,340 miles on this car in the course of six weeks! While I was less than pleased to see that he had put so many miles on the car, the bright side is that this car is apparently extremely reliable. In fact, he put enough miles on it to nearly drive cross country...so it's safe to assume that you can pretty much drive this car anywhere you want. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
