1962 Volvo Valp L3314 Description
This awesome vehicle is a very rare and very early 1962 Volvo Valp (L3314), also known as the Laplander or Valpen. It was the predecessor to the C202 and later the C303. This would have been in the very first run for the Swedish military with the new and bigger B18 (the world famous bullet-proof engine by Volvo) which started in 1962. It shifts via the 4 speed manual transmission and power flows through the transfer case which offers 2WD and two settings of 4WD. No need to drive in full-time 4X4!This Valp has only 51k original kilometers. It is completely running and driving with lots of recent service.
You can start enjoying this rig right away. It has recently had the fuel tank dropped and cleaned, new electric fuel pump installed, the carburetor was professional rebuilt, it got a tune up (new plugs, wires, coil, etc), and the brake master cylinder was rebuilt. It runs and drives well. It should get some final adjustments to the carb and timing to get it perfect. The carb was recently rebuilt but never adjusted after the install. The transmission shifts good. The 4WD is working. All the needed exterior lights are working (headlights, running lights, brake lights and turn signals). Even the split windshield wiper system is working! I do know that the fuel gauge is not working at the moment, although the oil and temp gauges do. The speedometer and odometer work. The front tires and spare are dry but don't leak. I would personally feel comfortable driving it to church, out to dinner, to the golf coarse, etc as it is, but I would definitely recommend going through it before any long hauls since it has not been used much in several years.
It has newer-ish paint which shows well. The upholstery is also newer and nice. The original roof and side canvas covers are in good condition with no rips. Most of the original leather straps to hold the canvas are present. It is missing one removable window frame over one front door. It is a pretty simple design and there is one to use as a template to reconstruct. The windshield is good and the swing out mechanism is complete and works.
These vehicles are notorious for rusting and there has been some rust repaired in this one. It looks to be somewhat amateur but did get the job done. There is some fiberglass in corners of the flat floor in the back corners and other visible repairs here and there, but nothing that needs to be redone to enjoy or use this Valp. I can send pictures from under neither or anywhere else on the vehicle if wanted.
Overall this super rare Volvo military rock crawler is ready to go! Mechanically in good condition. Paint and interior done already. Just get in and and have fun.
I bought it with nostalgic memories of my Dad taking my brothers and me camping in Northern Arizona in the exact same model. The cab forward design and mid-mounted engine helped give the Valp great ground clearance and weight balance which make them very popular with off-road enthusiasts. It could be great for advertising. It gets a ton of attention. One of the best things about this Valp is the size. It is shorter than most SUVs and will fit in most garages, carports, and parking spaces just fine. No need for a ton of room like other similar military vehicles.

This Volvo comes with a regular, clean and clear Arizona title and CAN be registered and driven on the streets and highways like a normal vehicle. It IS NOT branded "offroad only" or have any other special brands limiting use like other military vehicles and Humvees.
