1973 Alfa Romeo GTV
1973 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 Description
Please read complete description. Sorry for the long listing but I wanted to include as much as I could regarding what has been done to the car.
I Purchased this car from the estate of the original owner in Wyoming. With the ORIGINAL BILL OF SALE, warranty papers, owners manuals, and service receipts dating back to June of 1973, Ihave never come across or heard of a more original, complete, or intact GTV! Wyoming being a very very dry state, the car was extremely solid with the original floor, rockers, body panels, spare well, etc..
The car was originally purchased on June 24th, 1973, driven, and serviced regularly by a well to do couple (research and docs show they had 3 homes in as many states), although the wife's name alone was on the service receipts. As far as I can tell from the progression of miles and servicedates, it was her primary vehicle which I found pretty impressive. It was then parked around 1998 (dated insurance card found with most recent registration), presumably due torun-ability issues, and not repaired or driven since.
Upon receipt of the car in January of 2012, my intentions were to get it running quickly and worry about the cosmetics, little by little, in the years to come. I already had a Spider but wanted a 4 seater to tool around in with my 2 little kids while they could still fit in the back seat. Unfortunately, as the old saying goes, one thing led to another, and the quick mechanical fix turned in to a painstaking complete restoration.
Internationally renowned Besic Motorsports completely disassembled the car, Pulled the motor, and re-built it. The original Spica Injection system was serviced and tuned to perfection; It starts right up immediately whether sitting for an hour or a week. Eventually, the transmission, driveshaft, differential, brake system, fuel system, cooling system, and complete suspension all came out, were completely gone through, detailed, and thoroughly tested before and after re-installation. The entire exhaust system is new. The original radiator was sent out and triple cored. The original fuel tank was sent out, boiled out, re-lined, and stamped. Nothing mechanical leaks or is remotely wet.
The Body was completely stripped, any and all resemblance of rust was removed, and sheet metal fabrication was done wherever needed. It was repainted in its factory color using DupontORIGINAL SINGLE STAGE PAINT (UNHEARD OF TODAY). Every gasket, seal, molding, and screw has been replaced. The entire car has been properly re-wired from front to back. EVERY LIGHT works: Interior Courtesy Lights (Independent left and right door), trunk light, hood light, dash lights, console lights, glove box light, side markers, horn, wipers. Even the turn signal cancels from both directions. Every ORIGINAL piece of bright work was removed and redone.
Way too much to list, but suffice it to say that ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHINGhas been re-built, re-done, or replaced. At Considerable expense, the original mechanical and electrical components were dismantled and re-conditioned versus just replacing them with current versions; in particular the headlights, tail lights (no longer available original american versions), brake master cylinder, original radio, and heat blower motor just to name a few. AsI was originally going to keep it, I made a few subtle, tasteful, and easily reversible, Alfa modifications:
- Polished the engine cover (have original finish spare)- Ceramic coated the original cast iron headers (have original finish spare)- Swapped rectangular side markers for earlier round 69'- Replaced "C" pillar serpent badges with gold clover leaf- Installed Lux gray complete interior carpeting set- Installed Lux graycomplete trunkcarpeting set- Duramat insulation installed between carpet and floor- Re-finished rear package shelf and filled speaker opening (modern speaker hidden in center console ahead of shifter so no holes!!)- Original steel wheels stripped, powder coated, clear coated (5 including spare)- Rear Muffler replaced with GTA stainless version (sounds like a little Ferrari)- New Lower profile HP all season Sumitomo tires 195/60/14- Brand New correct set of (5) 185/70/14- New European 3 point front and 2 point rear seat belts
European Auto Restoration in Michigan known for masterful work just completed its final assembly and month long sorting / shake down at the end of May. The car looks, smells, runs and drives like new. The best way to describe the car is it's like test driving an Alfa Romeo GTV in1973. I have hundreds of pictures showing every phase and detail of the restoration along with every receipt and invoice. I have every singleoriginal part that came off of the car including the seat skins, headliner, side markers, gray rubber trunk mats, rear bumper, EVERYTHING.
As the "couple month" fixer upper project turned in to a countless month project, I picked up a clean driver GTV while the kids could still fit in it. Now that this one is finally done, it's just too nice FOR ME to drive around in its #1 + condition when I have other drivers that I won't fret about getting a rock chip or smudge on the road. You will not find a better, more original, cleaner, well sorted, thoroughly and accurately finished GTV.
Happy to discuss further and additional pictures available upon request to serious inquiries. I have clear title in hand. Check my history and Please ask anyand all questions BEFORE BIDDING. Car and I are in a Western Suburb of Chicago. Viewing and test drives are highly encouraged. Thanks,
