Garage find 1 owner S.Calif. Parked in 1973. 390 Go-pack,A/C,Tilt,AM/FM
1968 AMC AMX Description
Zero rust whatsoever. 100% complete. All numbers matching. All original from hub caps to air cleaner, and exhaust manifolds. The original owner was 56 when he bought the car new. The miles are actual at 68,000, and not turned over. The AMX has never been cleaned since 1973, other than me hosing it off before putting it my garage the day I brought it home. Interior needs to be cleaned. Seats, door panels, carpet, dash, steering wheel are all in really nice shape...just dusty. The car was covered in so much dust, you couldn't tell what color the car was underneath.Always garaged here in S.California it's whole life. Real time capsule. Original black plates.Engine runs unbelievable. I let the engine idle for 20 minutes, after bypassing the gas tank, and shooting Marvel mystery oil down each cylinder. Little smoke for the first minute, and cleared right up. Perfect idle, with great throttle response...no hesitation. Run very cool too...just unbelievable. No lifter noise, no smoke after the first minute. The only thing holding it back from laying posi marks all the way down the street would be the gas tank. Chances are, the car has never been stomped on.
Title is in my name. The picture of the license plates shows the dealer plate the original owner used. The registration for the dealer plate is in the picture of the glove box. It was issued in 1971. The orig. rear license plate has it's only registration stickers still on it, just 1968 and 1969. The dealer plate was used for the next few years. The last picture shows it's stable mate.
Both cars were put in the garage at the same time of his new house being completed and never left the garage. All the neighbors came out of their houses to tell me they have never seen the cars out of his garage. It was a big deal for them. The Lincoln has only two years of registration stickers...1969 and 1970. I confused the mileage from the Lincoln for the AMX. The mileage on the AMX is 69,753. The mileage on the Lincoln Mark III is the 58,000 miles and change. Sorry about that.To make it up, if the high bidder wants the Mark III too, you can have it for $2,000. That's $1,500 less than what I have into to it.
The red plastic piece between the tail lights are missing. I looked for it and just can't locate it.
ZERO rust. The paint is old lacquer, and will need to be puffed out. It has touch up in places and a couple door dings. To the left of the drivers side tail pipe, he backed into something, like a paint can, and wrinkled the lower valence slightly. The one picture I took is of the shoulder straps, not sure of they all came with those in 1968The passenger side valve cover has the little tag on the front too.
