1988 BMW M3
Diamond Black with Black interior
325k
I was with my dad when he bought this car new.
For thirteen years he commuted 70 miles per day, and took frequent long trips in it.
As a former SCCA race driver, he adhered to the strict break-in procedure and thereafter took meticulous care of the car, all service was done as needed at the dealership, in fact, they assigned his own mechanic to the car.
At around 260k miles, the engine was rebuilt by the dealership (Autohaus of Clayton), at that time they also replaced the original clutch (since they already had it apart).
After years of badgering, my dad finally sold me the car, it had 290k on it at the time, and still on the second set of brakes.
Since I’ve always had a couple other cars, I’ve only put about 35k on it in my fifteen years of ownership.
This M3 has high mileage (>95% highway miles), it is a Northern car so it does have some rust.
However, it is a true unmolested example, the suspension is original, in the time that I’ve owned it, it has never needed an alignment, yet it tracks as straight as it did when new.
It has never been raced, nor abused, other than normal wear and tear part replacement, it is all original (except for an aftermarket stainless steel exhaust, which sounds magnificent).
The brakes have approximately 10k, the tires less than that.
The interior is all original, the seats could use some leather conditioning and show very minor wear, the original radio is in place (tapedeck no longer works) the computer buttons show some wear, and the A/C does not work (nor did it ever really work effectively).
The center console has some bubbling, and the shift knob will need replacement.
Because I have not driven it for about a year, it should have all the fluids replaced before firing.
The paint has faded on the rear spoiler and the top of the back bumper, it has a dent where some a$$hat backed into it while parked, and the front bumper/spoiler came off over 20 years ago and when it wouldn’t stay attached, was inelegantly bolted back into place.
In 1993, my dad hit a deer, which dented the hood and the top of the right front fender, so those two areas were repaired but otherwise all paint is original and still maintains a shine.
It is a shame that a car of this caliber is sitting idle, it is time for the next caretaker to drive and appreciate her.
This vehicle is sold "as-is where-is", no warranty implied nor expressed.
