2002 BMW 5-Series 540i Description

I am selling my beloved 2002 BMW 540i M-Sport 6-Speed manual (E39). It is a wonderful car. You’d be hard pressed to find a higher performing sedan at this price point. It is by far the best car I’ve owned. Unfortunately, I do not have sufficient parking for two cars, and am therefore forced to sell.
Clean title in hand.
As you can see in the photos, the exterior is in good shape. M-technic front cover. 3M tinted windows throughout (rear windows are slightly darker than front). There are a few chips and scratches, but that’s to be expected with a 15 year-old car. Also, the wheels have some curb rash from the previous owner. I installed an AFE intake (I have an additional CARB sticker as proof of compliance with CA emissions standards). I have the original air box as well. Overall, the interior is in good condition. The M steering wheel and M shifter both have a great look and feel. Keep in mind, there are a couple small tears at the seams of the driver and passenger leather seats. Rear seats are in fine condition. Instrument cluster is showing the typical E39 pixel loss. However, you can identify mileage and messages just fine.
Mechanically, the car is in solid condition. It runs very well, and honestly outperforms my 2008 550i. I have kept full maintenance records since purchasing the car in January 2012 and can provide a detailed Excel summary upon request. I also have a recent cold start-up video available as well. In addition to regular Mobile 1 synthetic oil changes every 7,500 miles, here are few noteworthy maintenance items:
168k miles - Clutch inspection (operation is fine), valve cover gaskets replaced
161k miles - SMOG check passed
156k miles - Spark plugs and connectors replaced
154k miles - Brake pads, rotors, and sensors replaced
153k miles - New Michelin Pilot Sport Tires front/rear
128k miles - Both VANOS units, timing chains, guides, and various gaskets replaced
Feel free to reach out anytime. I’m more than happy to discuss the car in further detail.
