1975 BMW 2002 Base Coupe 2-Door 2.0L
1975 BMW 2002 Description
I purchased this car in June as a "Barn Find". The previous owner lost the keys a year prior and the car sat in his garage. The car was registered in 2015 so it hadn't been sitting long.
I purchased the car, ordered a key through BMW and have been using it as my daily drive since. I drive up to 400 miles a day for work. The car has made at least 4 trips in the past month over 200 miles. My typical one way commute is about 50 miles, mostly freeway at 70 MPH. I've had the car just over a month and have driven about 3000 miles. It is solid on the road. It handles and drives and tracks very well.
Mechanically I have been very impressed. It has always started easily for me. The tires and brakes are good. The 4 speed transmission is solid and the clutch is excellent. The clutch is very light and easy to drive. All turn signals, lights and gauges work. With the exception of high beams.
The car has had work done over the years, some extensive. As you can see in the pictures it has early 2002 bumpers, the rear is the long horn. The car was originally white. When it was repainted all doors, trim, electrical etc was removed. The engine bay was painted and the interior of the trunk. The paint shows better in the pictures than it is in person. The hood, trunk lid and many other areas have major scratches. There is very little rust on the car. Behind the rear wheels and the chin spoiler have the worst of it. The doors are solid as is the rest of the car.
The interior has new carpet and obviously Recaro seats. The seats need work. It has a very nice Momo leather steering wheel. The Blaupunkt stereo I'm sure was very high end in 1985, but is lacking by modern standards. The sunroof was an add on. It does not leak. The points ignition was replaced by a petronix electronic system. The carburetor has an automatic choke. The radiator was replaced recently. Once the car get to operating temp, it stays there. Even after 100 miles up and down hills on a hot day, it never ran hot. The alternator has also been replaced.
