1956 Buick Special Description

1956 Buick Special

Runs great, original 322 Nailhead/drivetrain. Has new exhaust, radiator/cooling system. Transmission has been serviced as well as the engine oiling system. Brakes/tires are good. Gas tank has been washed out and coated, new gas lines, new gas gauge sending unit, carb rebuilt. Previous owner put fatman uprights in the front and clamps on back springs to lower; its not bouncy or rough riding at all. Shocks and tie rods have been replaced. New starter installed and previous owner installed one-wire alternator as the generator quit charging, These Buicks start by pressing the gas pedal to the floor and what I understand it you do away with the generator you lose that ability and have to add a button. The car always starts right up, even after sitting for weeks. Exterior lights/signals/wipers work (except license plate light). All the gauges work except I disconnected the speedo. Exceptional headliner; no holes or damage. Pertronix ignition under stock distributor. Drivers door glass is cracked.

Project items: - The tube for the choke is missing, so if the car sat for a day I will pop the hood and then engage the starter with the accelerator linkage and manually activate the choke.

- The heater core had been bypassed when I got it, I pulled it and replaced it with a continuance of the heater hose. The blower motor didn’t work, I removed it and cleaned it and it will turn on but will blow a fuse in short time.

  • The floorboards have rust but were repaired by previous owner and by no means to show quality, but they do the job.
  • Body, rocker panels are rusted (there are new ones out there for sale) as well as on other areas but nothing beyond restorable - trunk is in very very good shape as well as chassis - very sound and solid. There is rust between the back window and the side glass (both sides).
  • Speedo cable is disconnected as the old one broke, I put a new one on but the speedo was struggling to move freely. This can be addressed when/if you put the new windshield in.
  • The radio comes on but no sound (no antenna).
  • Interior blinker lights flash sometimes and sometimes they don’t but the exterior lights always have flashed.

Extra items: Shop Manual, New Windshield w/seal, new front blinker lenses, replacement OEM instrument panel glass (unweathered).

I have had the car five years, it is great, people always giving me the the thumbs up on how it looks and sounds. I have driven it about 3000 miles in 5 years and it has never failed me. It doesn't smoke and the engine runs smooth and quiet.
