Rare 1972 Chevy Corvette LT1 Factory Air Conditioned Coupe, one of 240 Original
1972 Chevrolet Corvette LT1 Description
Up for auction is a rare 1972 Chevrolet Corvette LT1 Coupe equipped from the St. Louis assembly plant with factory air conditioning. Chevy built 27,004 Corvettes in 1972. Of that 27,004, only 1,741 were ordered with the high performance LT1 motor. Of that 1,741, only 240 were ordered with C60 factory air conditioning. You're looking at one of the 240. '72 was the only year the General offered a/c in the LT1 and '72 also concluded the famed LT1's three year run.
This LT1 coupe is finished in 972 Classic White over Deluxe Black Leather. Options include: Custom Interior Trim, C60 Air Conditioning $464.50, J50 Power Brakes $47.40, LT1 350ci, 255hp Engine $483.45, N40 Power Steering $115.90, PU9 White Letter Tires $43.65, and U69 AM/FM Radio $178.00
Restored over fifteen years ago, this Corvette still shows well. There are no rust issues with the birdcage or chassis, only minor scale brought on by age. The paint is driver quality with its share of nicks, scratches, and touch ups. I have included many photos to document.
The optional deluxe leather interior shows well. All gauges are correct and function minus the factory clock. All options work including the factory air conditioning, wipers, headlight doors, both lowbeam and highbeam, etc. An aftermarket AM/FM cassette player was installed but no modifications to the factory dash were made. The factory AM/FM radio is included in the sale.
Under the hood sports the numbers matching 350-cid 255-hp 9.0:1 V-8 LT1 motor. The pad reads V022CKY 12S520081. A later model Holley carb is present but the correct carb is included with the sale. The smog system, factory shielding, and air conditioning components are all present. The engine compartment shows well. Again, driver quality.
This Corvette starts, runs, shifts, and drives great. LT1's are a blast to drive. They rev high and pull hard all with the factory a/c blowing cold.
This Corvette was purchased at the 2003 Bloomington Gold Show by its present owner of 13 years. The owner is a lifelong Corvette collector and hobbyist who is a second generation service station owner. No maintenance was ever overlooked. The car was always properly stored in his climate controlled building.
Documentation includes a partial tank sheet, original 1972 Corvette Owners Manual, NCRS Judging Manual, and a folder full of restoration and service receipts.
In summation, this is the last year of the both front and rear chrome bumper Corvettes. It is one of 240 factory air conditioned LT1's that left the St. Louis plant. If you do the math, it represents less than one percent of the 27,004 built that year. If you've been looking for an appreciating Corvette, one with pedigree, and a wonderful driver, please consider this LT1.
