Designed by GM designer Jon MossTheZ56 "Police Package" suspension/performance package first shown to thepublic at the 1996 Detroit Auto Show. Prototypes were made in green andblue, but production was limited to one color only - Black Onyx Metallic.The original designof the Tahoe Limited was conceived by Jon Moss and badged as the "Tahoe SS"(concept introduced by GM on November 7, 1996). However, it is reported thatGM disliked the idea of an "SS" at a time when insurance companies werealready demanding higher premiums for SUVsThe Z56 had no roof rack,Available from 1997-1999, the Police Package Chevrolet Tahoe was a heavily modified police truck, powered by a 265 hp,5.7 L Vortec 5700 V8matched to a four-speed automatic overdrive transmission. It was 2 inches lower than the regular Tahoe it had a unique plastic grill with single headlights, and was only available in 2 wheel drive. In testing the Police Package Tahoe reached a top speed of 143 MPH, and had 0-60 times of 8.4 seconds.
