Up for auction is an excellent driver or restoration candidate. This 1970 Chevelle Malibu has a 383 Stroker engine, 4 speed Muncie Transmission, paint color is #48 Forest Green with a black interior.
I am selling this car for a family friend who has a clear title in hand.Older restoration on a solid frame.Mileage shows 37,286 miles, but we believe this to be 137,XXX.This car belonged to his late father, who purchased this car about 20 years ago.Although the current owner had expectations to conduct a full restoration, he has too many other projects, so this highly sought after year Chevelle is being sold. We have over 60 pics available, but only 24 are posted on eBay.Here are some details on the car:
Engine/Transmission - 383 Stroker engine, Edelbrock intake, Holly 750, Hooker Headers, Aluminum heads, new starter and mechanical fuel pump, New chrome valve covers, timing cover and alternator. The engine was built by Hutter Racing, however the paperwork was lost during moving. The engine has not been started in over a year and the transmission is in gear, so we have removed the drive shaft allowing the car to be moved around. This was originally an automatic and changed to a manual years ago. This car will need to be flat-bedded.
Glass and Molding - No cracks or chips in the glass. The wind up mechanism on the passanger door needs maintenance. All trim and bright work is in excellent condition. All weather stripping is in excellent condition with no tears or cracks. Trim and rubber was obviously restored or replaced during the restoration.
Body and Paint - With exception to some rust in the quarter panels, the paint is in very good condition for its age, with no dull areas or major defects. There is one dent on the top of the driver door, which is also shown in the pictures. All doors align and close without effort. No other dents on body. Chrome bumpers are in great condition, but are showing their age and aren't as shiny as they were once. All light lenses are in place and complete.
Floor Pans - Front and rear floor pan were replaced during the restoration as can be seen in the pictures. They were fully welded around their perimeters and look to have been done by a professional. Rockers are also very solid.
Seats and Dash - We removed the rear seats so that you could see that they had been restored once. The material is in great condition in the rear. The fronts have a small amount of wear on the driver side piping. There was a mouse living in the car at one point that removed some stuffing, so will want to "re-stuff". Dash has a crack in the center and will need replaced. Carpet is faded and shows wear, so it will need replaced. Sail panel and headliner are driver quality. All seat belts are present, front and back. Looking under the dash, everything looks to be in good order and we found no evidence of anyone hacking up the electrical. Fuse box in place and in good shape.
Tires/Wheels/Brakes - Tires are Pacemark Radial SR 255/60/15 with 6/32 tread. Rims are factory Magnum SS wheels painted Green with excellent bright trim rings. Brakes are power drum all around. We did not remove the wheels or drums, so consider having to take them apart, clean and install new fluid. We found no brake line issues or leaks.
What's wrong with this car:
The owner is missing the keys which were lost over a year ago.A locksmith was hired to make a key and damaged the steering column, so a new steering column will need to be installed. We cannot get into the trunk without keys, however from the pictures, you can see that it had been restored some years ago.The car has not been started in over a year (no keys), so it will need to be flat bedded and we recommend someone go over the engine before starting.Although the lines are straight and there are no waves in the paint, there is some rust exposure which does show that putty was applied during the restoration process (pictures are included). How much, we don't know. The center console is obviously not factory and will need to be removed and a factory replacement installed. The owner also believes the transmission and linkages need adjusted. These are all typical areas of review for any restoration, but we just want to make you aware of them. Again, this car is being sold as a project car. Do not expect to show up and drive it home.
Warranty and Payment - This car is being sold as-is where-is with no warranty. Will accept cash in person only or by bank wire transfer within 5 days of auction close. A deposit of $500 is required by PayPal at the end of the auction. If you have any additional questions, please email through eBay and I will try to help or put you in touch with the owner of the car.
We want the buyer to be happy with their purchase, so please ask your questions or if you are in NorthEast Ohio, we can set up an appointment to view the car.
Thank you for looking.
