This Impala has been in a collection for many years. The restoration was done sometime around then. Seems to be a really nice original car with cowl tag, correct colors and options. The car has the 409, 4spd, and dual 4 barrel Carter carburetors, Non power brakes, and no power steering. This one was ordered for one thing..To go fast! Not sure if motor is original to the car or not. Overall it is a great running and driving car. The car idles just under 1000 RPM nicely. Here in FL while cursing around I have not seen the cars temp get over 190ish. The oil pressure shows around 75psi. Though, I noticed a drop of oil on the garage floor, it seems it could just be a rear main seal. If I have the car long enough, I will get around to fixing it. The brakes have been gone through sometime over the years and work surprisingly well to stop this massive car. The transmission and shifter feel good and the clutch has a good firm feel, and does not slip under the huge torque of this 409. The steering and suspension feel nice and tight as it should. Although not the easiest car to move around a tight space, the non power steering is not as tough as some of the older cars Ive driven over the years.
The body is very very solid on this one. There looks to be no rust what so ever on this car and the pictures will show that the whole car was properly primed in the correct red oxide during the restoration process, which has sealed and preserved everything very nicely. The frame was powder coated as well during the restoration. The underside of the car is very nice as you can tell from the photos, floor pans have all been replaced it looks. You will see in one photo, it seems someone attempted to lift the car from the driver side rear floor pan, and it wrinkled the metalwork a bit, It could be hammered out but i don't see it being an issue. There is seam sealer on that same driver side inside rocker that is visible. Again, not much of an issue, but something to be noted. The chrome on the bumpers is not perfect but very nice condition. The trim work around the car is all intact and in excellent condition. There may be a piece or 2 that has a ding or dent in it, but again, something that would go overlooked unless pointed out. The glass is clean and free of scratches or cracks. You can tell the paint was done on the car a long time ago and is not perfect but very nice, and shows no bubbles or fish eyes, or any signs of bondo. The only spot I found with some bubbling was near the driver side taillights (see photo) seems like an odd spot for rust to form, so could be bad prep work or a repair, not sure. The trunk is solid, with no signs of rust what so ever.
The interior is one of the nicest I have seen. Someone took a lot of time putting this one together, from the seats to the door panels, to the headliner, everything fits flawlessly and looks and even smells new. The dash is also in excellent shape and below the dash are 3 Sunpro gauges mounted nicely with Temp, voltage, and oil pressure. The center console is in great shape, the silver trim has some wear but looks to be original trim. The tach on the steering column has been updated with a Summit gauge and looks nice.
I always suggest coming to see the car before bidding. If you have any questions just ask and I will do my best to get you a picture or the information you're looking for. The car is being sold as-is with no warranties or guarantees expressed or implied. Car is being sold locally as well, so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Please do not bid unless your funds are in place, and you are prepared to pay for the car.
