Description:
This is a very original unmodified low mile car that has covered just 40077 Miles. The car is 100% stock, with mostly all original parts as it came from Bowling Green. The car starts, shifts and stops as it should. Everything works with the exception of the few noted outstanding issues below. This is a fairly well optioned car for the year with the following upgrades from stock equipment along with what these options cost back in 1987. I've included a picture of all the codes from the bottom of the center console lid if you're interested in decoding the rest of the car.
AC3 - Six-Way Driver Power Seat $240 AQ9 ARR8 Red leather ADJ Spt Bkt $1025 (yikes a lot of money in 1987)AU3 Power Door Lock System $190C68 Electronic Air Conditioning $150G92 Performance Axle Ratio $22K34 Elec Spprd Control w/resume spd $185UU8 Delco-Bose Music System (sounds pretty darn good still) $905Z6A Defog System, RR window and Osrv Mirror $16524S Blue Lift-Off Roof Panel (factory wrench is included to remove this) $615
General condition of the car is good with very minor paint imperfections indicative of a car that's traveled 40k miles. There are a few places on the wheels where the clear is starting to separate, but largely they all still look good. The headlights pop up and down trouble free. Most notable is how nice the interior of the car is, especially the driver seat. The left seat bolster on C4 vettes is generally wasted as its impossible to get in the car without acrobatic feats without hitting the bolster. To the point, it shows slight wear, but it's in great shape in comparison to most. Interior wise the driver side door panel has a crack in the end where a screw attaches it to the door, and I've included a picture of this. One of the fasteners for the top of the door trim needs replaced, both of these things are minor and really the only thing wrong with the interior at all. An original owner had a car phone installed, so the base for that is left on the gas filler door. Let the pictures be your guide and let me know if you'd like to see something specific and I can get you that.
Ownership History:
This is an incredibly original 3 owner Corvette that has documentation back to the originalsale at Rose Chevrolet (Ohio) on 5/8/87. Those first owners enjoyed it until 12/20/88 when the 2nd owner purchased the car with 15747 miles. The 2nd owner is who really owned this car its entire life, put just 24,007 miles on it during his tenure. The 2nd owner kept the car garaged, I can't account for the first owner, but who would't garage a new $31k car in 1987? I purchased the car on 7/8/2016 and continued the trend of low miles and keeping it garaged, I purchased it with 39754 and as it currently sits it has 40077 miles. I'm only selling it because I don't have time to enjoy it, and the car deserves a more involved owner. Free Clear Missouri title ready to transfer.
Known Service History:
The 2nd owner gave me documentation showing service history during his ownership. Prior to that I wouldn't imagine the first owners would have needed to do anything but change the oil.Fortunately the car appears to have largely been maintenance free. While I'm sure these aren't every single receipt for the car, they do show the mileage progression. The 2nd owner transferred the extended warranty the first owner bought and near the end of that term it looks like he took it in to have them fix as much as they would cover. On this invoice dated 12/26/90 @ 32556 miles Rose Chevrolet the original selling dealership did the following (per the invoice)- Installed new V.A.T.S. Ignition Lock- Replaced lower filter housing (air filter I assume)- Its hard to decipher the hand written invoice, but it also looks like they replaced some valve seats & valve guides. I think this was only on one head, but can't tell for sure. I will say it does not smoke at all now, at startup or otherwise.- There was a myriad of other things Mr 2nd owner complained about, nothing huge and they didn't cover, some of which i'll mention below07/10/93 @ 35543 miles- New set of Michelins02/26/94-New Battery05/31/94 @ 36,380 miles- Oil Change06/18/94- Replacement Napa Alternator09/15/94 Jake Sweeny Chevrolet @ 37802 miles- Replaced MAF sensorFast forward to 07/24/12 Jake Sweeny Chevrolet @ 39671 miles- Replaced Fuel pump, pulsator and strainer (this is what happens when a car sits)- Replaced Water Pump- This was a $900 Bill. Ouch.- They recommended a tune up at this point as well which Mr 2nd owner passed on,06/26/16- Replaced battery
Third owner (Me)July 2016- Ac Delco Serpentine Belt- Oil change with AC Delco filter and Quaker State 5w-30 conventional- AC Delco Air Filter- Ac Delco PCV Valve- Replaced that Console Lid Spring finally after 26 years of being broke- AC Delco Distributor Cap/Rotor- Bought new AC Delco plugs, have yet to install as it started running way better with the new cap and rotor (originals were toast). These Plugs will go with car- Replaced a Spark Plug wire retainer on the driver side that i'm pretty sure the Dealer mechanic left of in 1990 when he did the valve work- Replace the 2 hood lift supports because the originals are toast, and that hood weighs a ton without the help from the lift- Other things that will go with the car other than the plugs are a set of plug wires Mr 2nd owner gave me (Car still has original Packard wires), a set of front brake pads as the originals are getting close to needing replacement.
Known Outstanding issues:- Power antenna Inop, it's currently up. This has apparently been broke since 1990 per the receipts and I haven't got to it yet- AC doesn't kick on. Rest of HVAC is good, heat/fan. I would assume that this R-12 System is low or needs a charge. Great chance to convert to 134 or do what I did which was take the targa top out.- The Lumbar bladder inflation on the optional sport seats isn't working, the rest of the seats work. Is likely either pump motor or switch, can only be so many things. Rest of power seats are operational
Documentation/Items Included- Original window sticker- Original Dealer packet with Owners manual, Bose Specific manual, Nifty little pamphlet about Bowling green, GM maintenance Schedule- I've got the receipts for all the above mentioned events, along with some other general receipts and communication from GM. I've organized this in a three ring binder in clear plastic sheets so it's pretty easy to go through. It's sort of a "this is your life 1987 Corvette"- Two sets of keys, one door lock key is uncut and needs to be copied from the other. Both ignition keys are cut and work (this is important because of the VATS system)- Wheel lock key- Targa Top wrench- Other parts listed above in the Service History
Terms of Sale- $250 Paypal deposit within 24 hrs of auction close or Car will go to the next bidder- Remainder can be paid in Cash, Wire transfer, or Cashiers Check. If choosing Cashiers check you will need to get that payment to me enough days in advance prior to pickup to verify the funds are good and the check actually clears which can take days.- Will work with your Carrier of Choice for pickup or scheduling a time to pick up in person.- Car is as is. I've described it as accurately as I could and stand by my description.
