1986 Chevrolet Corvette COUPE Description

This is the one I never thought I would sell for 2 reasons: (1) '86 was the last year on the C4, that you could get the more harsh, better handling RPO-Z51 (vs the Z52 the next year) suspension with an automatic. (2) I bought the car to keep because it is a Z51 suspension car, but it has a rebuilt title, so I knew if I put a lot of time and money in it, I would have to keep it because of the rebuilt title. Well, I did put the time and money in it. But I am 6'5 250lbs, and at 58 years old, it's getting harder and harder to get in and out of it. So I prefer my '55 chevy most of the time. So she needs a new home.

The car was stolen in the early '90s from what I can remember, but no damage was done to the car. Because the insurance company paid the note off before the car was located, they had to produce another title that was called a rebuilt title. Anyway, I bought the car from California in December of 2009. It needed mainly cosmetic work, but I installed (Myself), all 4 u-joints on the half shafts and driveshaft, detailing the rear suspension as I went. (4) new oem Bilstein shocks, new front brakes with slotted/cross drilled rotors, new tires, app 20k miles on them now. The car had sit in the California sun a little too long and the clear coat was peeling on the top half, so I sanded the car all the way down to the fiberglass and applied the correct primer, base coat, and clear coat myself. I am only a novice painter, and I didn't put enough base coat and it shows in a few places. The clear coat looks great for a driver quality car though.

I am not a dealer, but I have been a C4 Corvette enthusiast/collector for over 20 years. Since the C4 corvettes have basically hit rock bottom in price in the last few years. The best way to describe this '86 is that it's a reliable, decent looking, well cared for, excellent handling, driver quality car.

The original Bose stereo did not work, and I DESPISE non oem stereos in C4s, so I paid 350.00 for an original rebuilt Bose from a guy on eBay that rebuilds them and adds the Mp3 jack. I removed the original one, and connected this one, and it never worked. It turns on and lights up, but will not make a sound. I could of returned it and had the seller repair it, but I am a Nuclear worker by trade, and I think I was on a long job, and I just never got to it. I still have the original on as well.

For you C4 lovers out there that know your corvettes, I don't need to go into detail about the improvements the '86 corvette offered from the previous year. I will say this. The late '86 coupe with aluminum heads, (Chevrolet didn't put aluminum heads on coupes until around January '86 and that increased hp from 230 to 235), and '86 was the last year for the stiffer suspension Z-51 suspension with an automatic as i mentioned previously, is, in my opinion, the best handling, most fun factor per dollar, of all the C4 corvettes!!

The engine is very strong and runs extra smooth. The transmission shifts smooth, and there are no issues or leaks. WHEN THE ENGINE WARMS TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE, THE DASH READOUT ALWAYS LOWERS. I HAVE PUT A MANUAL GAUGE ON THE ENGINE, BEHIND THE DISTRIBUTOR, AND THE OIL PRESSURE IS NORMAL!! I know it doesn't make sense, but I have put over 10-15k miles on her like this. Went on 100 mile one way cruises in the hot summer, but the engine sounds smooth and quite. No lifter, or lower end sounds.

The A/C works well and blows cold air! Dash Lights are bright with LED issues.

The power locks do not work, and the passenger side window motor is not working, but the glass is all the way up. All the other power controls and buttons work as well as the cruise control.
The car also comes with nice R245/Z45/16 sport tires have plenty of tread life left.

The headlight motors work, but continue running/stripping so I keep them unplugged until I want to cycle them, then I just pull out the headlight switch, cycle them, then turn the switch off and unplug them

Oil was just changed with Mobile-1 5W-30 Synthetic.

Comes with 2 car covers.

Comes with both tops, but the blue tinted glass top is cracked (see photos), but it will save you hundreds on a core charge.

Wheels are nice with very minor scratching.

I have a clear title in my name.

Also, a stack of receipts for replacement parts. Plus I ordered a slate plaque from the corvette museum in Bowling Green that has the build sheet embossed/engraved on it that shows every detail about the car.

This '86 Corvette may sound like its a piece of junk, but it has been my main "keeper" corvette for 8 years, and i can get in it at anytime, and go for a nice cruise, or trip, and it has never let me down!!

I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU ARE CLOSE ENOUGH TO CHATTANOOGA, TN TO COME AND INSPECT THE CAR YOURSELF. THEN YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN. Its basically a solid, dependable, fun, reliable early C4 corvette that needs a lot of cosmetic work, and a few other items, but for the low reserve I set, you won't find another '86 this cheap, and this much fun!! I just don't have time to drive it much, and it needs to be driven and enjoyed.

I'm sure I have left something out, but I have plenty of photos, so please email me for more if needed. You can email me at bluemoontheatres@aol.com for more photos or questions. You can also call anytime before 9pm est @423-402-5317

On Mar-30-17 at 18:44:00 PDT, seller added the following information:

WHEN I MENTIONED THE AC AND THE DIGITAL DASH, I MEANT TO SAY THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH THE LED CRYSTALS IN THE DASH. ALSO, I MEANT TO ADD A PICTURE OF THE RPO PLAQUE I MENTIONED. BUT NOW THAT THERE IS A BIDDER, I CAN'T REMOVE PHOTOS.
THE BOSE ANTENNA HAS BEEN UNPLUGGED FOR SEVERAL YEARS BECAUSE THE MAST TAPE THAT MOVES THE ANTENNA UP AND DOWN IS STRIPPED. I BOUGHT A NEW ONE YEARS AGO, BUT NEVER INSTALLED IT. I ALSO BOUGHT A GENUINE OEM COMPLETE ANTENNA KIT. BUT I NEVER INSTALLED IT EITHER. I KNOW THAT SOUNDS CRAZY. BUT I USUALLY HAVE SEVERAL OLDER CARS AND FOCUS ON THEM AS WELL, AND THE STOCK L-98 IN THIS CAR WITH THE FACTORY MUFFLERS AND FACTORY STALL CONVERTER (AROUND 2200-2500rpm), SOUNDS SO AWESOME THAT I NEVER REALLY WAS THAT CONCERNED ABOUT MUSIC IN THIS CAR. AND I LOVE MID '80s C4 BOSE STEREO SOUND!!
WHEN YOU PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, JUST COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT FOR EXAMPLE, IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE PUSHING IN THE CLUTCH ON A MANUAL CAR. I LOVED THAT SOUND IN 1985, AND I LOVE IT NOW!! .............REMEMBER, I HAVE MORE PHOTOS, AND CAN TAKE WHATEVER YOU REQUEST..........EVEN A VIDEO IF YOU WANT...............THANKS FOR LOOKING..........
