1956 Corvette, Nice Old Corvette!
1956 Chevrolet Corvette Blue with Ivory Coves & Beige Int. Description
FOR SALE: 1956 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, Early Production (Painted Headlight Rings), 515th Corvette Built in 1956. According to the N.C.R.S. 1956 Corvette "Judging Manual", All 1956 Corvettes through VIN # 1360 had painted headlight rings, 1956 Corvettes from VIN # 1,360 through approximately VIN # 1,600 had either painted or chrome headlight rings. VIN # 1,600 through VIN #4,467 end of 1956 Production and ALL 1957 Corvettes had chrome headlight rings. There were ONLY 3,467 Corvette made in 1956, VIN # started at 1,001. This is a nicer looking unrestored Driver Quality 1956 Corvette, V8 283 (1957 Dated Engine), 4 Speed, 370:1 Posi Rear end. Car has one repaint in Actic Blue, painted in 1972, original color was Cascade Green, nice Beige Interior. From what I have been told the car has always been Garaged and in general looks like it. (Please look at ALL the Pictures, it is very nice for a unrestored vehicle). Is it Perfect? Definitely NO. It is a 61 year old Corvette that was last painted back in 1972-ish, Lacquer checking paint, peeling paint, chips, scratches, nicks, interior shows some ware but no holes or tears and actually looks very good, I just installed a new Beige carpet kit. Just to be upfront, the Corvette looks better in the pictures than it does up close and in person. It is definitely a 10 footer, looks very good from 10 feet away. The closer you get the more flaws you might see. Car has LOTS of Patina, personally I like that "used car" used look. The Patina look, seams to be very popular these days, I get thumbs up where ever it goes and people say they love the unrestored look! There has been a number of things done to make it a reliable driver, has New Radiator, new hoses and belt, new water pump, new 6 bladed fan with new fan clutch, new brake master cylinder, brakes and rubber brake lines, new exhaust, new date & number coded Generator, rebuilt wiper motor. Has very nice looking Wide White tires that are in good condition, BUT they are Bias Ply and it drives like it. A good set of quality RADIAL tires would make for a much better ride. The car is a blast to drive now, radial tires would bring it to a much more "modern feel". The Motor is a 1957 V8 283 4bbl, not sure of the mileage on the motor but I went through the top end and installed new valve stem seals, resealed the intake manifold and detailed the engine and engine compartment and installed new motor mounts (see pics.). Transmission is a 4spd. manual, had trans. resealed, installed a new 11 inch Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate and throw out bearing, transmission works and shifts very good. Rearend is 370:1 Posi. All Gauges (Speedo and ODO, milage show 61,549.) work except the Clock, has a freshly rebuilt/restored/new Tachometer, the original temp gauge works, previous owner installed a aftermarket temp gauge ALSO, believing it would be more accurate. Check out the pictures, Dash is beautiful! Has its original Spare tire board with its original jacking instruction sticker! No spare tire, jack or jack handle. Has what appears to be a very good solid frame, has road dirt and grime, has a small area of rust on the rear cross member, very common. (see last pic.) This is the area that everything (moisture/dirt/etc.etc.) is pushed to and is almost always the minor issue area. Very mild for a 61 year old car. Overall the frame looks very good, most of the times on ebay, someone will say the vehicle is very solid and rust free and the show pictures that every thing metal under the car is "RED" from surface rust. NOT THIS VEHICLE, road grime and dirt, very decent frame. Is the mileage original? Maybe, maybe not, we will have to assume it has turned over as it is a 61 year old Corvette, but who knows. (???). Has it ORIGINAL Wonder Bar Radio with Speaker Amp but it is not working at this time. All glass is in good shape, windows roll up and down nicely, I had ALL the lock cylinders cleaned and re-keyed so all locks work with the ignition key, except the glove box lock, it is keyed separately (as original) so you could lock something in the glove box and the valet could not get into that compartment with the ignition key. The Convertible top is Black (should be Beige) it works but is weathered, back window is "starting" to fade but you can still see through it with out a problem, car was originally a two top power top car, all power top parts were removed and are gone. Hardtop is missing (probably still hanging in some ones garage). There are some ware marks in the fold areas of the canvas. It does not bother me as I always have the top down (Convertible Corvettes were meant to have the top down). FYI: When starting cold, the car is very COLD BLOODED, as the heat tube to the carb. choke is plugged off and choke is in the open position, plus no thermostat so it takes a little while to warm up. (I put a BRAND NEW 160 degree thermostat in it but it FAILED right out of the box, so I removed it and threw it away.), that's why no thermostat. This is a very nice old Corvette that should do nothing but GO UP IN VALUE, but PLEASE REMEMBER this is a 61 year old unrestored Driver type Corvette that is not a virgin (some signs of previous body repairs) and is SOLD AS-IS!
