Gone in 180 Seconds - Limited-Edition Neiman Marcus Camaro Convertible.
It all over in only three minutes. That's how long it took for 100 limited-edition Neiman Marcus Chevrolet Camaro Convertibles to sell out in this year's annual Christmas Book. Phone lines opened at noon on Tuesday, October 19. Finished in handsome "deep Bordeaux" red paint with "ghosted" racing-stripes, thisCamarois definitely something we wouldn't mind seeing tucked under a Christmas tree - or snuggled next to a menorah.
The lucky few who ordered one will have to wait until early next spring when theCamaro Convertiblemakes its official sales debut. Other than the snazzy paintjob, the windshield surround is silver painted, and the cabin is finished in amber leather with red accents on the steering wheel, shift knob and center console. Chevrolet reps confirm that this is not some simple chop-top conversion. The transformation from coupe to convertible has required some pretty extensive engineering.
The trunk lid, rear fenders and rear deck (and of course the soft-top itself) are all unique to the Camaro convertible. The pavement-thumping 2SS model in the Neiman Marcus catalog comes with a snarling 6.2-liter V-8 engine and choice of a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. We'll learn more details about the specs and pricing of the Camaro Convertible when it appears at the L.A. Auto Show in November.
However, the $75,000 price-tag of the Neiman Marcus edition is certainly no secret. In case you just choked on your coffee, relax. This is a premium of roughly $30-40,000 over what you'd likely pay for the car in standard format, equipped with either a V-6 or V-8 engine.
So is it worth the price premium to own the Neiman Marcus Edition? Sorry, but your 180 seconds to decide are officially over.
