1973 L82 COPO Corvette 4-Speed 11,463 Actual Miles Restored + 383 Stroker Motor!
1973 Chevrolet Corvette COPO Description
The 1973 Corvette in this auction is unlike any other on the market. This is a Super Rare Documented COPO (Central Office Production Order) 1973 L82 Corvette with only 11,463 original miles. People often throw the word “rare” around when selling cars but are they truly rare? Let me break this one down for you. Out of the 25,521 Coupes built, 5710 L82’s were built (22%) and only 3704 total Vettes were 4-speeds (14%). This was one of only 30 special ordered (COPO) in Tuxedo Black (not an available color in 1973) and if you figure out the % it’s 1 of only 4 Black L-82 4-Speeds originally built. Out of the estimated 6 total Tuxedo Black 73 Vettes left in existence (all combinations), this very well may be the only one left in existence. It doesn’t get rarer than that. I think I can safely say it is the nicest, lowest mileage example of a factory black 73 L82 4-Speed in the world. Now you know it’s rare, but what are the details of this stunning American icon? This is easily a #1 condition car that is perfect from top to bottom and highly detailed. The current owner purchased this Vette in 2008. It was already a Top Flight award winner but he wanted the car to be absolutely perfect. The car went through a detailed and pricey restoration of the under carriage and engine compartment for a better than new appearance. Everything was either replaced or restored to a factory new appearance on the underside. The body itself was in excellent condition. Over 50% of the paint is still original and looks beautiful. The black leather interior is original and in excellent condition as well. Now the drivetrain is where things get interesting. The original numbers matching motor was removed at around 11,000 miles and put on a rolling dolly because a new, more powerful motor was built by Jim Hagerman Racing Engines. Fear not purists, the original motor is included in this sale. Jim started with a high performance 010 350 block and built it to a balanced and blue printed 383 Stroker motor with an estimated 400hp. Externally it appears as stock 1970 LT1. It features a 400 crank, engine bored .030 over, forged pistons and rods, high lift cam. A restored factory 1969 Z/28 intake manifold with a Holley Carb, was used in conjunction with Dart Platinum 200 Iron Eagle heads, topped with factory aluminum finned valve covers, Jegs high flow water pump keeps it cool. Exhaust exits through factory rams horn exhaust manifolds into dual exhaust exiting through the rear of the car. The transmission is a Numbers Matching M-21 4-Speed, The original rear is still retained. Its features and options include Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Power Windows, Tilt and Telescopic Steering, Factory Air Conditioning, Factory AM/FM Stereo, Black Leather Interior and SPECIAL ORDER (COPO) Tuxedo Black PAINT! There is a binder of original papers from new plus tens of thousands of dollars in receipts from the restoration. I have personally added up many of these receipts with the purchase price and I came up with $80,806.72. There were still more receipts to add up and that is not counting the engine build. There is well over $90,000 invested in this car and the quality shows this. This car is also completely documented with its NCRS Top Flight award it earned October 2007, Original document folder from Hory Chevrolet in Larchmont NY. Original Window Sticker, Original Owners Manual, Original New Car Warranty, Original Maintenance Schedule, Original Firestone Pamphlet, Original Consumer Information, Original Emissions Control Systems, Corvette Owners Card, Plus Original Owner Registrations and Title. To top it all off, there are pictures of car at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix with Emerson Fittipaldi riding in passenger seat being driven around the track. Overall you are getting an absolutely stunning and rare Corvette. Let’s hit the key points: The restoration done to better than new with a total cost of over $90,000. It’s in #1 condition, It’s been NCRS certified with its Top Flight Award, it has its numbers matching L82 drivetrain, plus a well built and more powerful motor installed with a factory appearance, it is fully documented, Emerson Fittipaldi actually rode in it, its BLACK, it’s a COPO, it’s a 4-Speed, it has Air Conditioning, and it needs nothing.
