1996 Grand Sport Corvette #10
1996 Chevrolet Corvette Description
1996 Grand Sport #10 for sale.
This will be and already is one of the best GS's available for sale and will be a great investment to any collection. The first 11 GS's were built under the pilot program, giving this 'vette the history-worthy value of a true pedigree under the bowtie logo. This car was built in '95 as OBDII validation vehicle. These would have been for powertrain OBDll validation and as such would have been used to validate that OBDll diagnostics were robust to many different driving conditions and variation in parts. They would have been driven to altitude, sea level and climate conditions around the US. Giving this vehicle classic American history, muscle and a touch of modern computer diagnostic performance.
John Heinricy, the chief power train engineer, personally spent tons of time behind the wheel of this GS as he was testing and ensure the remaining fleet of 989 grand sports would be ready to be delivered to the public (much of this history is documented and supplied, including a personal email sent to me from John Heinricy to me about this car). The car remained in GM's fleet until it sold in Oct 1996. 1 of only 3 built with the exact options on the car, but considering it was built during preproduction, I would consider it 1 of 1 with its history.
Options include: rare sought after red interior, LT4 engine (330hp, 340tq), 6 speed ZF manual transmission with 3.45 gear ratios, full power adjustable seats, custom exhaust by Billy Boat Cat Back (still have original exhaust included with sale), still have original tires (unusable due to hardening), and just about every option GM could possibly throw at a car in '96. Clean Carfaxs! Shows first owner under fleet vehicle but car was just kept under his company's name but was never used as a corporate vehicle. This car has been in my family since July 2003 with 39K original miles. It has been garage kept (with climate control) its entire life and never driven in the rain or snow. Has recently been through an extensive detail from the undercarriage, engine and transmission to removing the seats and every corner in-between. Car runs perfectly and has been maintained properly its entire life by a true corvette lover and is evident when viewing the condition of the vehicle.
CNN Money lists the Grand Sport as one of the top 10 MOST COLLECTIBLE CORVETTES EVER PRODUCED. Hagerty values a 1996 Grand Sport Corvette in this condition for $48,200, however given the history and pedigree of this particular vehicle, being #10 off 1000 ever made, manufactured preproduction and residing in museums and posing for magazines until sold to the public, this car is truly in a value category of its own. The research is out there to show this is one of the 'vettes to get your hands on. The only reason I have decided to sell the vehicle is because I can no longer warrant owning two grand sport corvettes as my garage continues to keep shrinking, or so it seems.
Car is for sale locally and listed under other collector sites so I do reserve the right to end the auction early. Will assist buyer with shipping, however buyer is ultimately responsible for pick up/ shipping costs. Title will not be signed over until payment received via certified check. Feel free to ask any questions and thanks for looking!
