You are bidding on a 95% restored 1966 Corvair 500. I’ve had it up for sale before but couldn’t bear to sell it; here we are again in a financial hardship and I have to let her go. My loss, your gain.
Positives:
The car has had virtually everything replaced with receipts to prove it. Front and rear suspension replaced and suspension pieces powder-coated white, most bolts and nuts replaced with stainless steel. New shocks and springs, new weatherstripping, carpet, seats reupholstered, door panels, rear panels, visors etc. etc. New carburetors (although see below), electronic ignition conversion with high fire, new gas tank. Custom rims and tires; car lowered all the way around. It was lower in the rear before as it was solely a show-car but a couple years ago I raised it up another inch so it could be driven without rubbing the tires. The front is a bit low now relative to the back (in my opinion) since I raised the rear for driving purposes. Even with that the car has less than 2000 miles since the restoration (just haven’t had time to get her out and drive her regularly). Underneath was completely cleaned and spray coated with grey/white spackle coating. The only thing that doesn’t look “show” is the engine compartment – email me and I can send you pictures. Custom paint, new exhaust, new windshield. Chrome valve covers and oil pan. Front and rear bumpers re-chromed; front bezels re-polished. New tail lights and front turn-signal bezels. Windows dark tint all around. I have an engine temp and oil pressure gauge kit that I have not installed yet – brand new. Also have window felts that are new – somehow forgot to put those in when I was restoring the car! The car won its class in a 2002 Super Chevy show. I was only actively showing it in 2002 & 2003; after that got too busy with other things. Car has been garaged the entire time since its restoration.
Engine and transmission are not the originals; the original engine in the car was seized. I bought another used engine and tranny. Engine has not been rebuilt but runs good; have not done anything to the transmission but it works fine. I do not know how many miles are on the drive train. The car is not fast so don’t assume that because of the way it looks – motor is stock and it’s the 110 hp motor.
Negatives:
The interior door pillar post coverings; the driver’s side warped a little bit so needs to be replaced. I suspect this happened because the dash is custom covered which made the material a little thicker than stock.
There is a small dent behind the license plate; you can't see it unless you take the plate off. It got missed by the body shop when it was painted. And, the paint job isn't "show" quality although it looks really good. There are a couple imperfections here and there.
The floorboards did have some rust holes in them. At the time I didn't have the wherewithal to take it to someone and have them cut out and professionally fixed. I didn't think the car was going to turn out as nice as it did (had I have realized that I would have spent more money on the paint too). I did rivet in 1/8" sheet metal over the rusty areas, and also treated the floorboard extensively with anti-rust compound. The only other place the car had rust was around the rear window about a quarter size. I grinded and sanded that some and also put that rust preventative in it.It does not leak. No other rust on the car. I have pictures of what it looked like when I first bought it if you want to see them, although you really can't see the floorboard with those old photos.
Carbs: The chokes are not hooked up nor can they be - those little things that come out of the block to make them work are missing! And, since the car sits all the time the accelerator pumps in the carbs are now not working, which makes getting the car to run tricky. I’ve tried a few times to get them to work and usually can but they clog up again because I just don’t drive it. So, right now, getting it to run is tough because of this very reason. When fixed, the car purrs like a kitten. And the problem really is the driver’s side carburetor.
The engine compartment is NOT as pretty as the outside of the car! Moreover, although I have showed this car it is NOT A SHOW CAR. Don't expect it to be. There are flaws here and there on it - small but they are there. Things like imperfections in the paint, light scratches in a couple of the windows, not a great paint job around the edges along the bottom of the car, etc. etc. Small but they are there.
Odometer says 85866; I’m pretty sure I used a cluster from another car so this in no way reflects the actual mileage. Title is "C" and has 00000000 on it. Clear title.
I can take more pictures just email me. I will store the car for free for two weeks ONLY then after that it’s a $5 per day charge UNLESS prior arrangements are made. Remaining balance requires cash payment or wire transfer ONLY.SHIPPING COMPANIES WILL NOT TRANSPORT CARS THAT DON’T EASILY RUN! So realize you will need to figure out how to come get it personally…
