1966 Chevelle SS, 396, 4spd, L78 Restoration Project Extremely Rare Car
1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Description
I would like to start buy letting everyone who may have seen this car on ebay previously know that is was not sold in the last auction and I pulled the listing to spend some time doing research on the history of the car. I expect to have comments regarding the authenticity of the car and what I know to be true at this time.
Up for sale is this 1966 Chevelle SS convertible L78. It has spent it's life in and around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It official production date is 3/24/1966, which intern would make it one of the early production L78 cars. I also have documents that verify the car was not originally designated to a Dealership, but instead was referred to as a Zone Car, specifically Zone 15 which is Philadelphia. As far as i can tell the Chevelle's early life was as a promotional tool for GM. That being said, the original engine is no longer with the car. We have gone to great lengths to see if the motor still exists, with little success. The car does have a 396 currently, which is included in the sale. I do have the original high horse fuel pump, intake manifold, pulleys, and power steering, as well as the original clutch fan, which the design was unique to the L78. The factory M21 4 speed is in the car with all of the appropriate stamping, as well as the numbers matching 12 bolt 3.73 posi rear, with the better brakes. This car basically had all the options that could be ordered on a 1966 Chevelle. Power windows, Power convertible top, Power steering with all components. Tilt steering column as well as a 2 spoke wheel. Day and night mirror, FM/AM radio and factory head rests. The Tach face is no longer with the car, but the wiring is, and the numbers match with the high horse car. We also have the rear bumper guards which are not pictured. The original front clip is no longer with the car as you can see. It does come with the replacement parts pictured. Most of the original badges are on the car with a few aftermarket replacements. The paint is the original Lemon Wood yellow. The frame is in great shape as well as the original rockers. There is a small man made hole on the passager side, I have no idea why. The rear quarters are original but have some rust. The truck floor is rusted through and would need to be replaced. This is truly a great car and I welcome anyone who would like to view it in person. If you have any questions feel free to call me at 717-880-0712. Thank you, Jason
