1969 Chrysler Newport Description

This 1969 Chrysler Newport is a very clean car with many fresh parts, a desirable color combination, and a strong 383 engine. This is a reliable car for cruising, taking to car shows or just using as plain old transportation! I've driven it thousands of miles (in summer weather only, of course) since I bought it and it cruises great on the highway. It has its original 290-horsepower 383 big-block engine that runs strong and smooth. Fuel mileage is predictably dismal. It also handles like a boat, but boating is pleasant.

I bought the car a few years ago from the third owner, who bought it in the late ’90s. It was in the ’90s that the car was repainted in its original teal. The paint has great shine and it’s a fairly rare color for these cars. There are a few scratches on the car. The largest scratches are located on the driver's door, and the driver's side rear fender near the bumper. I also had some moron on their cell phone back into me in a parking lot and cause a small dent on the passenger front fender. The dent was professionally repaired the correct way at enormous cost to the guy that hit me. The paint wasprofessionallyblended on the passenger door and hood. As you can see from the pictures, it’s a perfect match and you would never know it had been dented.

The engine is the original 383 big-block and it’s a mountain of a motor. Just keep it well-fed on mid-grade gasoline and it delivers strong and smooth power. Engine has never given me a lick of trouble in the two years I've owned this lovely old car. It has a slow oil leak but nothing serious. Engine has a new water pump, alternator, thermostat, spark plugs and air filter. If you buy this car just so you can put the engine in a Road Runner "clone" I will send Liam Neeson after you.

The interior is mint, both in condition and in color! Hope you like teal, because there's acres of it here. Interior still has cool ’70s Rubbermaid floor mats. There is some sun-fading visible on certain parts but the seats are in great condition. Sadly, the driver's seat has a rip on the seatback, about 2.5 inches long. The AM radio works great for playing Sinatra and the heater works, I guess. It's a summer car and I've never used the heater. One odd quirk is the rearview mirror. There's a screw on the back that tightens the mirror on its little hanger but it seems to always work itself loose over time. Possibly just needs loctite on the screw but for now its a little loose. Still works. Steering wheel and dash have no cracks, which is rare. This car has been loved!

The car has just one bizarre rust spot. Before I bought it, the car sat uncovered in a parking garage for several years. It sat under a pipe with a tiny, slow leak. That little drip over some four years made a tiny nickel-sized rust hole right at the bottom right corner of the rear window. I just put some aluminum tape over it since it’s such a tiny hole but it does leak into the trunk during car washes or rain. Pictures of the spot are included in the ad, and I can take more of that spot if you like. There is also some bubbling on the bottom of both rear quarter panels. Pictures included.

The entire braking system has been redone. All new wheel cylinders, new brake shoes, and new master cylinder reservoir. Brakes work great. This car could be driven anywhere in confidence. The transmission shifts well and the shock absorbers absorb shock.

The car is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Buyer assumes pick-up and importation duties. Car is sold "as-is" with no warranty. I reserve the right to end auction at any time. Happy to answer questions and send more pictures. Would also consider trade + cash for a chrome bumper C3 Corvette. Oh, and her name is Peggy. Be good to her.
