2000 Chrysler Concorde Description

2000 Chrysler Concorde LXi 4-Door Sedan

Beautifully maintained, Grandma-owned vehicle - only 48,200 miles

The task of selling this wonderful car has fallen to me, partly because I am the family car guy and partly because I have a pretty good history with eBay. Because I am sensitive about my 100% positive rating, I will do everything I can to be honest and accurate about this vehicle, which belonged to my wife’s mother who left us to be with the Lord recently. If at all possible, you should try to view this car in person and take it for a test drive before bidding.

The Backstory:

In June of 2000 Betty J Cobb (then 76 years old) and an assortment of daughters and grand-daughters was wandering through Columbus Ohio in search of something that needed buying (otherwise known as “shopping”). One of the grand-daughters pointed out a gleaming silver car, festooned with balloons and prominently displayed at a Chrysler dealership. “Grandma, you would look good in that” she said. After making a couple of passes around it, Betty replied, “Yes, I think I would.” Ultimately, Grandpa concurred (like he had a choice).

I would like to call this a one-owner car, but a bit of explanation is required. The car, when purchased by Betty, had 4,573 miles on it, and had been used as a dealer demonstrator and a promotion vehicle for the custom canvas top option, but had never been titled. Then, at the other end of the story, when her health had deteriorated to the point where it became difficult to travel, she transferred the title to her son, Ron, in 2015 just to simplify estate issues. The car remained in her garage and was only used occasionally for trips to church, to the doctor and to keep it exercised. Even during this period of little use, she constantly required us to get it washed, change the oil, check the tires. It was and still is licensed and insured. A copy of the Ohio BMV VIN Inquiry showing only these two titles is shown in the photo section.

:

For those you who are not familiar with the Chrysler Concorde, it is a full size, very roomy car. It is fine for use by four large golfers with all of their gear to travel in total comfort. Or, it might be used for the whole family to go to lunch after church. The LXi model is the top of the line with pretty much everything as standard. The only factory option on this car was the 50/50 split bench seat, plus the dealer had added a black custom canvas top, chrome plated Chrysler Corporation wheels, and a black pinstripe. Included in the photographs are shots of the original window sticker, dealer add-ons and the original bill of sale, plus the screen print from the Ohio BMV showing only two titles issued, the original in 2000 and the last in 2015 when it was transferred to Betty’s son.

Specifics regarding Condition:

·Body and Paint: First of all, and mostly importantly, there is absolutely No Rust anywhere. Note the pictures of the door hems. Betty didn’t do winter. If it snowed, she stayed home. Secondly, that gleaming silver paint is All Factory Original except for having the rear bumper cover refinished to repair a scratch several years ago. The car was always garaged, every single day and night. The car has never been wrecked, ever. But, I must confess that there are number of small parking lot issues which keep me from saying that it is perfect. There are several small door dings (no paint damage) which I tried to photograph but couldn’t make them show. Also there is a spot on one front fender forward of the wheel which is wavy from an encounter in the driveway several years ago. If I were buying this car, I would just call somebody like Dent Wizard and spend $200 - $300 making it perfect. Most folks can’t even see what I’m talking about when I point it out to them.

·Interior: Absolutely like new throughout. The leather is lustrous and unblemished. There are no scrapes or scratches anywhere in the interior. The headliner is perfect. The carpets were just shampooed and are plush and deep. The car was never smoked in. Ever. It still smells new. The dash is perfect, with no cracks or fading. The trunk is huge and pristine. When I emptied it, all I found was a blanket used to protect the trunk and an umbrella. And the full sized spare which has never been on the ground. The floor mats (see photo) are absolutely like new (Betty didn't do winters, remember? Rarely did rain.)

·Engine and Mechanicals: It runs like a new car. I don’t know what else to say. Nothing leaks, nothing squeaks, nothing drips, nothing smells. The transmission is smooth as silk. The brakes are fine; smooth, firm and no pulsing. The air conditioning blows icy cold. We have made numerous family road trips over the years and 28 to 30 mpg is not unusual.

·Wheels and Tires: We haven’t been able to locate the receipt for the tires, but a few years ago we replaced them, just based on age. These tires probably don’t have 15000 miles on them, but that’s a guess. See the photos. The chrome Chrysler Corporation 16” wheels sparkle like new and show no signs of corrosion (remember, Betty didn’t do winter). However, typical of Chrysler aluminum wheels, you sorta need to pay attention to the air pressure. They might need a couple of pounds of air every couple of months. Oh! And it has a Full Size Spare that has never been on the ground.

·Everything Works (except as noted later): Power Windows, Power Locks, Power Mirrors, Power Seats (both sides), Radio and DVD Player (I didn’t have a cassette to try the cassette player), Power Trunk Release, Cruise, Tilt, all Lights, etc. The gas struts that hold the trunk up wouldn’t, so I replaced them both last week. The battery was questionable, so I replaced that also last week with a brand new one. It was my intention to do an oil change but it is full to the brim and clean like it was changed yesterday, so I have not done that. Since the car hasn’t moved much in the last year, I dumped a can of Seafoam fuel system and fuel injector cleaner in the tank, and will drive it until empty. Then I will add a second can and fill with fresh gas. This might be a waste of money on my part, since it has run flawlessly for the last hundred miles or so since I took it out of Betty’s garage, but better safe than sorry.

·The Short List of Problem: The right rear door power lock doesn’t work electrically. Works fine manually. End of Problem List.

Our Thoughts on Pricing: We know that we are looking for a bit more money than one would expect for a 16 year old car. But darn, it's really worth it. This isn't a fairly decent car that was fixed up to sell. This is the way it has always been. I spent one day washing and waxing it, polishing the wheels, shampooing the carpet and generally detailing it. It got a new battery, trunk struts and one dome light bulb. The engine was wiped off with a damp cloth. Then I browsed eBay, AutoTrader and several Craigslist sites, looking to see what was available in the $4000 to $5000 range. The short story is "Not Much". For $5000 you can buy anything you want with 135,000 to 190,000 miles on it. Lower mileage cars are there, but with salvage titles. Or "New Paint". Or "Needs Tires". But the list of one-owner, garaged, non-smoker, fully equipped, original paint, leather interior, needs nothing fixed, 48,000 documented miles vehicles is almost non-existent. And if you are six feet, four inches tall, you'll fit just fine.

Please, no trades will be accepted. Payment must be $500 via PayPal within 24 hours of the end of the auction, with the balance in cash within 10 days. (We might consider a cashiers check from a local bank, maybe.) The car will be stored indoors until you get here.

As mentioned, the car needs to be sold to clean up an estate, but with a house and a lifetime of possessions to deal with it will take a while, so we don’t need to hurry, and it is too early to give it away. Please look carefully at the pictures. If you desire additional photos or information, don’t hesitate to ask. Text me at 6 one four 496 five 8 one zero. We may also desire to advertise the car locally, in which case we reserve the right to end the auction early if there are no bids. Also, if you have no bidder history or a rating of less than 95% positive, please contact me before you bid. It doesn’t need to kill the deal, but we need to talk first.

We are located in West Jefferson, Ohio 43162 (just west of Columbus). Sorry, we will not ship but if you contract a carrier, we will make ourselves available to assist with loading.
