1959 DeSoto Adventurer Description
I have a very rare 1959 DeSoto Adventurer for sale.The "real" Adventurers (dual 4 bbl high performance cars) were only made for 4 years and in very limited numbers, 1956-59. After 1959 the Adventurer name was just a cosmetic upgrade.In 1959 only 590 2drht were produced and 97 convertibles.
As far as I can tell this DeSoto still has the original 350 horse 383 motor (there was never any matching numbers so without getting info from Chrysler Historical I can't determine for sure if it is the correct engine but it is a 1959 383 and all the correct Adventurer brackets are on the engine).And the engine runs great, it has a single 4 bbl carburetor on it now but I have added a correct 1959 Adventurer dual 4 bbl set up, intake and the right carburetors.If you want correct air cleaners I can get them also but since I have to buy them they are not included in this auction.I have no way of telling if the engine has been rebuilt or not but as nice as it runs and with the lack of blow by I suspect it has been rebuilt at some point.
This car is a great project. We bought the car as a disassembled restoration project.We had the body media blaster to bare metal, etching primer sprayed on the bare metal and 2 coats of grey primer on top of the etching primer.There is some rust, the trunk floor, both rocker panels, the bottom of the quarters and the wheel opening lip in the rear.The inside floor is excellent with the only (minor) rust in the left front floor pan, again it is only minor rust there.The deck lid, hood, front fenders, door etc are all excellent.
The body is straight considering it is an almost 60 year old and unrestored car. There's a few small dings that you can see in my pictures.Most of the potmetal chrome is very nice. The potmetal trim on the deck lid is bad, it was missing when we bought the car and this was the only one I could find.
We assembled the DeSoto mostly so we could see how complete the car is and I'd say it is more than 95% complete.I can see the stainless trim on the deck lid is missing, one door panel is missing, one short piece of stainless on the bottom of the left front fender is missing (I think I know where I can buy that piece), the chrome "shields" on the quarter panels that hold the Adventurer plastic emblems are missing, one short piece of stainless on the right side of the roof is missing, the Adventurer emblem on the glove box door is missing and I'm sure a few other small pieces are not with the car.We have the trunk lock key but no ignition key but ignition locks with keys are easy to find and cheap to buy.I have bought and added pieces since we bought the car but I have not found everything.
The engine starts and runs great, the brakes are not working so the DeSoto is not a driver. We drained the old fuel from the tank and it looked clean but personally I like to send out the tanks to have them boiled out on cars that have been sitting for years before I drive them, it has not been done on this DeSoto.

This DeSoto has PS, PB, Power Windows that work excellent, signal seeking radio, tinted glass, swivel seats and it had dual rear antennas but they were missing when we bought the car.
A nicely restored 1959 Adventurer convertible brought $220.000 at Barrett Jackson 3 months ago, this car is neither a convertible or a restored car so I have no crazy expectation on the value but it is a very rare car and a very collectible car and a great candidate for a relatively easy restoration, or with a day or two worth of work it would be a driver as is.

It will be spectacular!
