1929 Replica/Kit Makes Description

AVAILABLE FOR AUCTION IS A 1929 MERCEDES BENZ SSK, GAZELLE REPLICA
This Mercedes SSK replica was built in 1982 and used as a daily driver for a number of years before beingstored as a result of moving, employment changes and a company car being provided.
Most SSK replicas had either a Pinto orVolkswagen engine and running gear, however this one has a Buick V-6 and GM automatic transmission. The frame is custom made, tubular steel and has Ford front and rear suspension and steering. The convertible top and seats were made by the same company that made the seats and tops for Excaliber vehicles.
After being stored both indoors and under tarps, this vehicle is in need of an extensive restoration if you want to bring it up to reasonable standards.
• The fiberglass body needs to be surface-prepped and repainted. Chrome items need to bereplated.
• The running gear should be gone through completely and all fluids flushed and replaced.
• The carburetor should be rebuilt / adjusted, and exhaust system replaced.
• The seats and interior panels should be re-upholstered and the dashboard replaced.
• The present windshield is polycarbonate and new. It's a common material for kit cars with a rain repellent used unlesssafety glass is desired. A safety glass windshield was quoted at $60 locally. Also, the windshield is not sealed into position as if re-chroming is desired removing thewindshield and sealant is a major project. Sealant is intended to be playableindefinitely and cleaning it for chroming is a major pain, to say the least. Therefore, the windshield is loose inthe frame and will be shippedtemporarily secured.
• This vehicle has the plumbing and brackets for anair-conditioning system. It will require a small Japanese vehicle compressorandrefrigerantfor completion. Present owner never used the A/C, but included it in the build plans.
• Speedometer, and other gauges are retro-style aftermarket.
• The rims and wire "baskets" need to be refurbished and/or replaced.
• Tires are in need of replacement and are only good enough to move the vehicle from presentlocation to a trailer, but no farther.
• I cannot be certain that every single part, nut, and bolt is included, but all of the parts specific to this vehicle will be included.
• The car "ran" a little over 1 1/2 years ago, with gas squirted into the carb and a little cranking. It's not been started since, and presently does nothave a battery. I have a copy of this start-up video and I think I can forward a copy asanattachment if you want to request one.
• Georgia, where the vehicle is presently located, does not issue titles to vehicles built prior to 1985,they just issue a registration form which has a sales transaction segment. A conventional Bill of Sale will also be issued at time of sale.• The attached photos were not Photo-Shopped but actually make the vehicle look better than it is in person. If you want anyadditional photos, send me a request and I'll attempt to provide the photos you want.
I've built a total of 5 kit cars and needed help with each of them. Rebuilding a car is not as quick or easy as they make it look on the TV car shows. It takes time and money. However, I've loved every car I built and made a fair amount of money with each one I sold. I had 4 of these SSK's at one time, two I completed and sold, which wasblack, went for $15,000 in 1984, which is exactly$35,023.44 in today's money.
I also included a photo of the car I sold in 1984, mentioned above, which shows the type of convertible top included and photos of this car that's for sale in 1992 when it was still a daily driver.
I'm not able to finance, loan, co-sign or hold the car for three months while you try to put the money together for thepurchase. Also, if you have fewer than 5 sales/purchases and or reviews, please contact seller before bidding. If you don't, I'll cancel the bid and block further bidding. I also require a $500 deposit within 24 hours of the bid completion and will offer thevehicle to the second highest bidder if not received within that time period.
I will assist to some degree in the transport of this vehicle if you want to pick it up yourself, or if a commercial service is used, they seldom need help.
Good luck and please . . .
